heya that would be a good idea...because when we all go down as groups..it would be nice that someone or everyone to keep an eye for dem darn bears....
i do have a cb unit myself, but i wouldn't dare dream of putting on my GTA...now since it nice and clean...if i was driving my p/u truck i would have that attached and it definately would help to check out for 5 0's...unless it probably would be better if we all had
nextel phones...and use the two way walkie talk feature..haha..
however i do also have a hand held scanner and a 2 uniden walkie talkies...
so if were within 3 mile range i we can scout ahead or behind..although depends on if anyone else has walkie talkies or scanners...

since it would be, ummm, not in my idea of good taste to have a 7' whip on my convertible...

i would just plug a cheapie mobile unit into the cig lighter... put velcro on the bottom of the CB, and stick it to the passenger side of the console for the duration of the trip. for the antenna, get a 6"-12" rubber ducky antenna... nice, small, and removable. radio shack has several.

id say use a hand held unit, but they dont transmit well out of the car... me and 3 other friends cars used cheap walmart hand helds on a road trip... you had to hold the antenna outside for them to work. we ended up sticking the same rubberducky antennas on them.

i was interested in buying something like those 5 mile hand held walk talkies..but will wait...
i know it will be a good idea to like try to have several people in each caravan to have some sort of communication of some sort during the road..and i don't mean cell phones with nextel capablities....
but it at least should keep it in mind

when i had one in the 82, it was a slim mobile.... i kept it wedged between the seat and center console.

for the antenna, i had a long whip that i kept hidden behind the plastic in the back on the drivers side.
it worked, but when i switched to a 4" rubber ducky antenna that mounted on the outside of the car with suction cups, i got twice the range.

cb channel

i have a big radio its a galaxy 66 i got it mounted on the pass side under the plastic dash trim, i used two of the screws out of the lower dash panel and mounted it there. as for the antenna it is a magnetic k40, i put it in the center behind my t tops it has good range as well as looks ok.

great idea

thats a great idea to have a cb channel for third gens (or all F bodys for that matter) I have a nice cobra CB that i used when I drove otr. thats a good question "where to mount it". I still haven't decided, I have however decided to wait until I get a car alarm. anyway when I eventually do install it I'll be on channel 19 and my handle is "ice".

in my ol 87 T/A i had my uniden cb unit velcroed to the passager side of the radio pod..it did a good job...and stayed in place and i had a 6ft antenna that was made by wilson and it had a very good reception because it was magnet mounted to the body as a ground. It was mounted on the rear window decklid between the window and the spoiler in the center, pretty good spot to have it...they say that antenna was tested for speeds up to 200 mphs and it stayed in place.
at the time i had even my cb unit tweeked up to legal limits...
i'm gonna have to find them again because i wanna put it on my truck now..

you jsut reminded me..

a kid in highschool had one... he put the "hook" side of velcro on the bottom, and stuck it to the passenger side of the center console, near the radio when he used it....
