I just thought that denny was getting a lot of negative posts on this board so I thought i'd see how many people want to come regardless because it's a day of fun. This is the third year he has done this type of thing with no fees being attached the first two years just his own money. one year he bought a keg(21 & older) and burgers/hotdogs, last year there was hundreds of hotdogs/burgers and cans of pop, probably filled up his silverado twice with pop and food coming back from the grocery store. I can't see the problem with throwing him some money for all his efforts. He is a stand up kind of guy and his parties are always laid back and relaxing. So the question becomes is $35 worth bickering over and not going. you have 3 months to save it up. hopefully in those 100 days you can save less than 35 cents a day to make it. If not McDonald's is always hiring.

Not to mention, car raffle? That in itself is worth the price of "admission".

Five cars coming from the Quad Cities in my crew. Were spending more on gas getting there than most of the NW Indiana/ Chicago members are payin for the ticket.
Then you add in hotel expences and the normal money dropped for regular day to day living expences.
If you can't afford 35 bucks...maybe you should be at work the day of the party!

like I said $35 bucks is not gonna stop me from comming. I look forward to this every year and I want to show off all my hard work over the winter to make my car even better. denny really helped me out with my tpi swap and I am more than willing to throw a couple bucks his way to cover his costs.
I also will be there. I have not been able to attend one yet, but am planning on making this one. It is amazing that $35 would keep anyone from going. It must be all those other 3rd gen only shows that are out there. (Someone please fill me in on these!!!)
I too, am driving from out of state and will spend much more on gas than $35. It seems to be a case of people wanting something for nothing. From what I have heard, just charging this to be there is fair, but to get the chance to win a car, that is awesome!! Instead of looking at it like you have to spend all of $35 to attend and eat like a pig (not to mention the beer on Friday) and have fun all day, look at it like the chance to make some serious money or keep a rare Pace Car if your name is chosen. I already have 2 Camaros and HELL YA....I will take another!!!
Another way to look at it is break it down costwise:
This is a breakdown for me (yes I know that you may be different)
Friday: Free Beer, chips pop, ect: Last time I went out with some buddies I spent about $40 for me and the wife at the bar. If we stopped right there, I would be making out....
Saturday: Fun Show, Free Food, and lots of nice people. How would you put a price on this? I have lots of relationships that have started by meeting people at a car show that I would not trade for the world. Anone have new friend(s) that you met at one of Denny's gatherings? Has that person ever helped you make a repair to your car, given or make a hell of a deal on some parts that you needed or just plain been there to help you out of a jam at one time or another?? Ya, I would miss out on that for $35....NOT.
The biggest suprise to me is that the local guys seem to be the ones who have the biggest problem with this. I would LOVE to have a show like this local to where I live. You would think that you would do pretty much anything to support someone that is such a valuable asset to your/our hobby. How many of you guys have bought an engine, hood, seats, bumpers or something large from him that otherwise would have cost a fortune to ship?? So look at it this way, how much $$ has he saved you?? I am pretty sure that he has saved pretty much everyone complaining about the $35 WAY more than that. And as posted earlier, if you can't throw together $35 in 5 months, you should be working the day of the party!! Don't mean to offend anyone, but come on....I am about as cheap as they come, but have no problem forking over $35 for a good time.
As a major credit card commericial goes:
Free Food, Beer, lots of 3rd Gens, New Friendships=PRICELESS
I will see all the other 3rd genners there!!!

The only thing determining whether I will be there or not is where I get placed after school. If I'm still around here, I'll be there and I'm looking forward to it.

No one ever said they wanted something for nothing. I just hope there is more to do this year, last year was extremely boring, although i had a good time.
No one is bitchin either, simply stating our feelings regarding the admission fee. I never said i would not attend.

I plan on coming if I can get off of work. $35 is not THAT bad for all the food and such that Denny has to buy. If it's our show then we should give a little support. The show is growing every year but I think once we get hundreds of people coming then the entrance fee will go down. It's all about having fun like the rest of the guys said. Last year was my first year and it was kind of boring but once I actually started to talk to people it got better. I think this year will be a step up from the last being that more has been added. Kudos to Denny and keep up the good work bro!
P.S. Think you could hook me up with some 86-92 taillights? LOL

last year was my first, i had a blast i enjoyed looking at all of the fine rides, and meeeting some great people. i plan on being there this year, and on fri for the party , i wasnt able to get there last yr on fri cause of my son's graduation.
i am not worried about the price for addmission, i think its fair but for this there should be a second and third prize. grab bags seat set or something else. i just hope i got the cash to get there.
the thing is i may bring all three of my cars if the third is running in time. now my ta isnt perfect it's actually along way from perfect but when i got put in the front yard was i surprised but anyway hope to see everyone again this year..

I'll be there...I too met some great people, saw some nice cars and have had a great time the last two years.
I go to all kinds of car events, from shows, to the Hot Rod Power Tour and even Woodward Ave. Dream Cruise. This is one of my favorites by far and thanks Denny for having it.

Your going to lose a lot of people that have been there in the past and you will lose new people that have yet to attend like myself........Not only because of the cost but also with the "good" cars in front rule......That is the most senseless, mindless way to organize the cars.........Someone else metioned a camaro side and a bird side...that would be the better way.........What you need to do LFN is take a vote at how it should be set up this year. A lot less people would be pissed off if you did it this way. EVERYONE as a whole can vote on what price is fair and alos how you should set up the cars....maybe then i would show up.....along with bill

even this "life ain't so bad" thread has become negative. all the fun of this event is slowly being sucked away. come on guys. if parking arrangment is something that would stop you from comming, then when we can make sure everything is intermixed. I wouldn't mind a camaro and firebird division either. as for the "if I bring more than one car thing", just bring the one you like the most and come have a good time. you can only drive one there anyways yourself so I don't see what you are missing out on by only bringing one, isn't driving these cars the reason we love them? lets not make this this a big fight that drives people away.

just my opinion, but why separate it on the better cars up front? and who would make a decision as to which cars are good? just sounds too subjective to me.
how would you feel, if you felt you had a decent looking car, though not perfect, to be left in the back?
if someone wants a good spot then they take the initiative of showing up first, just my thoughts anyways, no need to alienate those that attend

I'll be there. Just what I can learn from other owners would be worth 10 times the 35 bucks. Plus I get to eat and drink. I can't wait.

u know all this talk about good cars up front bad cars on the other side... I have a few pics of not the best looking cars up front.. and some pretty nice ones on the other side. Not trying to start anything here. I care less were I park. Its not like denny has 5 acres of land to walk from one point to the other. But to me it seems the later u showed up U had to park on the other side.

I was parked on the East last year and I know my car was second row front yard S###. It bothered me for about 4 1/2 minutes. I am a man and know when to let stuff slide. I felt the most pride when I saw a pic of my car posted on METALLICS personal site. It is nice to know when people still take notice even if your not up front. As far as goals, hell yes it is a goal of mine to have all my cars in the front row, but that takes many years of hard work. The cars in the front row are there for a reason. Blood sweat and no tears. I am happy just to attend......and talk smack with others that share the same desire to make killer cars to be recond with on the street and track. I am sure that it is nice to hang with people that have the same intrests as you. That should be enough to come alone. The fact that someone is willing to have a large scale gathering at their house is enough to attend. Don't even take into account he has parts and you can save on shipping. I drive from Iowa all the time to buy large amounts of stuff regullarly. He always has what I need and I don't have to pull it in some mud hole of a junkyard. He gives us first pick of everything before it goes on e### Without people like Denny we would'nt have a hobby as fullfilling as we do. 35 bucks ain't crap.

Just to clear things up, the other section isn't some "hall of shame" tucked away in the back somewhere. It's just the section of yard on the other side of the driveway that runs in front of and alongside the house. It's only 10 feet from the front section. Everybody on Thirdgen seems to agree that the beat up cars running around give our cars a bad name and that's all we're trying to avoid here. This event relies heavily on pictures from previous events to promote it. Showing a bunch of project or beater cars front and center isn't a good way to promote any car show/event. Let's face it people, putting a $200 project car next to a perfect, big money car isn't doing either car any favors.

.However, out of all the people I've talked to, the majority definitely favor the better cars in front. In fact, even most people with cars that would end up in the normal section favor separate parking.

I realize you can't please everyone but here's how I see it:
Why are you giving the people with nicer cars the treatment? You really need to consider changing your setup. I understand you need to charge $35....it's not all that much but if your going to give certain people special treatment with parking their cars, you need to adjust admisson rates accordingly to certain people too.
With the current set-up I know both my cars would be in front, definitley the firehawk. But whats the fun in going and having a good time if my friends dont want togo beacsue they dont feel welcome with their """project"""" cars that they have put blood, sweat, and tears into. They are the true thirdgen addicts and they need to be rewarded too......EVRYONE SHOULD BE EQUAL!!!!!
You must not have talked with THAT many people with "normal" cars as you call them. I know about a half dozen people that are against this setup........DO SOMETHING abaout this. As much as it seems i'm bashing you i'm only trying to make things better. I thank you for opening up your home to us, but like I said i'm not going there without my friends.......

Think about this, if everyone with a nice project car has put money into their, and belong in the front row, they will most likely be in the front row! However that is also based on what time you show up. Also, if you think Denny is giving special treatment to the people that put more money into their cars to get them that nice looking, think about where most of them got the parts from and who's pocket their money went into, Denny's! Like many of us have said before, don't go if you don't like the set up! It really doesn't bother me spending $35 to go or not, it all depends on if I get stuck working or not that day! It also depends on if my car will be driveable by then too! Even if its not driveable, and I do get the day off work, I will still pay Denny the $35 asking fee, to go to his gathering and spend time with people that enjoy the same hobby that I do. Denny already mentioned in the post "Not Attending", that all this bad mouthing and complaining about prices and parking wasn't going to change his mind, and could cause more people to skip it this year! Well, I'd like to meet more people than I did last year, so if your going to post comments that sound like that, post it under "not attending"!

Like I said before $35 is not the issue anymore.....so quit bringing up the money part of it......It's about trying to get as many new and old people to show up and have a good time.....but apparently you guys dont care about expanding because of your remarks....thats not good for business...

You must not have talked with THAT many people with "normal" cars as you call them. I know about a half dozen people that are against this setup

No offense, but I hardly consider a half dozen people a majority. I've talked to at least 30-40 people. The majority of people really don't care about parking but most of them have said they think separate parking isn't a bad idea. (That's actually the way I feel as well.) As far as people who definitely have a preference, it's easily been 3 to 1 in favor of separate parking. I think Jeremy summed it up best in another post.
" The parking :-) Everyone is gonna love me here Im sure. Leave it alone and split it up(like it has been done). If there is a disrepancy let the organizers/mods be the deciding factor. Where else on theplanet can you get a picture of multiple thirdgens that look good on film with straight lines and paint. Every car show and event that I go to during the year has different classes and levels. Sides, I do appreciate getting a few good pics and having all clean cars in the picture. (and yes I completely realize my cars are not show quality vehicles either, they getdriven, alot)"
It doesn't take a perfect car, show quality car to get into the front. All you need is a nice, clean car. Cars with body damage, rust, multi-colored, primer, etc. are going to be in the main section. As people have said, if you show up later even really nice cars are going to be in the main section.
You may find it hard to believe but it seems like people who were in the main section last year favor the separate parking the most. Look how many people have posted that their goal is to have their car good enough to be in the front this year. They realize they aren't going to win one of the trophies this year but just getting to the front is a victory for them. The two project cars I had at the party last year were in the main section as far away from the front as possible. The closer they are to the nicer cars the worse they look!!! Even some really nice daily driver cars are put to shame sitting next to the really nice cars. A lot of people have told me in the past they were embarrased to have their cars sitting side by side with the nicer cars. Do you really think a project car is going to get much attention parked next to one of the nicer cars? Most people are just going to pass by without giving it a second look. I really think the project cars get more attention parked with other projects.
Like I've said, I've talked with lots of people and this is what we decided. We always ask for feedback in the weeks following the party and if most people think we need to change it, we will. However, the will be no major changes this year other than what has already been planned.

And since this is getting out of hand and Denny has made his final response, I'm locking this. Like it or not, things are going to be the way Denny says they are going to be. Its his party and he can do it however he wants. If there is a big showing, awesome. If not, then hopefully it will change for next year. We won't know exactly how it will turn out until its done. No one is forcing anyone to come if they don't want to. Any other gripes about the parking/ticket pricing should be directed via PM. Thanks and I hope to see most of you there if I can make it

I opened this post because I wanted to make one more comment then it will be closed.
We've tried to improve the party every year and make it better for everybody. Of course, you can't make everybody happy all the time. Andy and I have already had to lock two posts because of the direction they took. Thirdgen Fest is all about seeing nice cars and meeting some great people. Complaining about the way the party is set up is only going to ruin it for the people that choose to attend. Thirdgen Fest '05 is already set up and there will be no major changes. We always ask for feedback following the party every year so if you want to see changes please wait until then. If you don't like the way the event is being run you don't have to show up, plain and simple. We still have a LOT of people coming and all this negativity is only going to drive people away.
I do have one last comment. This isn't directed to anybody in particular. I'm sure a few people won't like it but I think the majority will agree.
I hope we all agree that all people are created equal. However, we all have special skills and abilities. That's what makes us who we are. I feel the emphasis that we're all equal all the time is sending our country in the wrong direction. In some places, no scores are kept in little league games and all the kids are called "winners", schools don't give out grades because it's "unfair" to the less intelligent kids, and teams are picked by teachers so nobody has to be picked last. It's all in an attempt to make sure nobody feels inferior. Sure, that's a nice idea but what is it really helping anybody.
In REAL life people do receive preferential treatment based on your skills and abilities. The most qualified people get the best jobs, the best looking girls get the most attention from guys, the smart people get the best grades, the best singers on American Idol move on while the rest get ripped on by Simon.
Come on people, the best things in life don't come easy. It takes a lot of hard work and patience. When things don't go your way you can do one of two things. You can either complain about it or you can see it as an opportunity to improve yourself. If you have a goal in life you need to bust your butt and put yourself in a position to make it happen. Whining and complaining about it isn't going to get you any respect from anyone.
With that said, I hope we can all get along now, and hopefully, we'll see you May 28th.
