Need some input...

Well, the plans seemed to have changed once again. Seems the last place I checked into the track is just crap, lol.

anyways , now I'm lookin into a place near Hagerstown, MD
the track is Mason Dixon Dragway, seems most love it.
Also, there is a very nice fairgrounds I've checked out, that has many options for us, even maybe a building, in case it's rainy.

This is the kind of deposit I have to make in order to reserve it for a date. BTW I'm plannin on June 20-22nd for the whole event, and June 21st for the show part.

How Can I Reserve A Date?
Deposit 25% of total rental Provide the fair with $500 escrow
Provide the fair with certificate of liability insurance listing
The Great Frederick Fair, Inc. as additional insured.

So, I'm gonna call and see how much it would be to rent and then get a deposit estimate. However, I'm not sure what parts to use, I figured an enclosed builing would be a good idea in case of rain.

One building is 199'x60' giving 11,940 sq. ft of space, think that would fit 200 cars or so?
here's an aerial photo

So, it looks like soon I will be emailing everyone and having those that check this board not on my email list, to have to send me a few bucks in order to reserve the fairgrounds.

Thanks all for the input, and hopefully we're very close to having the date and place set in stone.

Maybe, I'm not looking for much input here, after further review, lol, just wondering if getting that enclosed building would be a good idea?

Personally I think your going to get yourself into a bind by trying to get people to send you money for a deposite! JMHO!

12000 sq. ft won't fit close to 200 cars. Probably about 60 at most.

thanks for the info, yeah now I realize that.

Also, about the deposit, I'll probably just make that part of the entrance fee, along with other costs of food and such. I mean, people couldn't have expected me to have put up all the money myself. The deposit would reserve the fairgrounds for us, and would make it easier so all the money isn't due up front.

I mean I figure they want 25% down, I don't see that being too much to collect from everyone.

Plus, I think we'll have some sponsors for this, so that should help with the bills a little, I just need to reserve a date first.

Nope, don't get the business one, it just wastes away some money paying PayPal. If you get a personal one, the payers will have to register with paypal, and if they aren't already registered with paypal, when they do register, they will get $5 free, so they can put that towards their payment...

Not sure if that was some what of a comment on my comment, but I hope my message wasnt interpreted as such!? I definately dont think Mark would skip town on anyone, but more of a concern of collectiing a certain amount of $$$. Believe me I know how it goes, you set up a price, then ask people to pay. Then you either get people that pay and dont say nothin', or you get people that say a lot (as in "yeah I'll pay......save a spot for me.....blah blah blah) and never come through and you were depending on them!!!

Basically I dont want to see Mark committ himself to something then have to shell out a bunch of money out of his own pocket to cover for someone. Right right right, I know, maybe it aint that much money, but it really shouldnt matter! What ever you do Mark make sure that you clearly state that the money that is sent to you is non-refundable.....another words if they pay the deposite then they better show up to get there moneys worth

this will kinda go back to one of my previous ideas.. charge ppl to enter into the car show to get money for the deposit.. i know that something like this has to cost a but load ot money.. i wouldnt expect to not to have to pay..

on the paypal, u have to have a comfirmed account (give them a credit card number or checking account number (when u do both they give u $5)) to recieve credit card payments.. and paypal charges a little less than 3% of whatever is sent to your account.. ive been using paypal for a little over a yr now and never had a problem w/ it..

Let me know what you need, Mark. I'm with ya! As far as the money being non-refundable, I think that's pretty much standard procedure with an event like this. If the event happens as planned and someone doesn't show up to get their money's worth, that should be their problem. I think we're all adult enough to make this a success.

Hey Mark, I'll tell you a secret - I'm only kind of semi-computer literate, meaning learn as I go. I'll try to fix that.

There, that's better.

As long as there is a track near-by, within a reasonable drive to the bar scene.......and big enough for the event.....

It's OK with me...

People might not be willing to pay a deposit 6 months in advance remember this isn't happening till 6-20-03......some aren't 100% sure yet..........

Granted I know it's far off, the deposit shouldn't be much. But, like KandiedZ said, when it's time to ask for money, that's when I'll know who is serious about coming.

Also, the place I'm lookin at now, as a huge outlet mall in the town, I've been there several times with my GF, just to let people know if thye want to go shopping or something.

I am willing to send my portion of the funds ASAP. I think people should be grateful that all they have to do is send money. Mark is taking away from precious posting time to set this up. LOL

Really, mark is busting his butt setting this up, so if all i have to do is send some money, and enjoy the event, life is good.

Thanks again for this Mark, you will def. go down in board history.
