Weigh Reduction

What all can you safely remove out of the engine comparment or the body on a 1990 v6 RS? I removed teh windshield wiper washer fluid tank and lines but is there a motor or anything? I don't want to take out the windshield wiper motor though Just curious as to waht else I can remove. I am not taking out any interior and not removing the A/C. Just trying to get the weight lower! Also I have read a few tech articles but never this direct question!

I dont know if you want to take out your smog or not, but mine came out with hoses, fitting, pumps, brackets, probably another V8 in there somewhere just to drive the thing. Anyways, that helps, plus it cleans up your engine compartment reaaaaal nice.

Axle/Gears: 3.42
for me: smog pump and lines = 14lbs
spare tire and jack= about 38 lbs
windshield washer fluid= 1-4 lbs
manifolds to headers = probably saved about 5-8 pounds

thats about all I could remove and keep the car nice, however the 86 will be a total gut job, hope this helps

What kind of weight does my fibreglass hood save over a typical steel hood?

Your motor for the windshield wiper tank is on the backside of the tank itself. You can take out all the heater core stuff also.I took off the wiper tank the heater core and some stuff under the hood latch area also. The hood latch also. Also the wipers and the motor for the wiper also.
On the fiberglass hood with probaly lighten it up 50 pound or so.I have a lift off hood on my car.
I have a bbc in my car and that made it heavier in itself.

A BBC only adds 100-150 pounds more than a SBC. Using aluminum heads makes it roughly the same weight as an iron head SBC.

Weight saved is speed earned

The fiberglass hoods save a lot of weight.
I am not sure how much since when I got my car it had one but when I lifted the hood on my friends z28 it weight a ton compared to my daytona fiberglass hood.

As was also said, Smog pump adds weight, but not much.
you could remove the inner wheel skirts I think. I have not done it and dont know what they weigh.
I removed the AC from mine but I may put it back due to the fact that I drive the car on the street more than the track....
