the end of baddest305

well this is the end of "baddest305" as he was known. i have had so much enjoyment out of this little ole 305 but the day has come to step up a little. next thursday i will be picking up my brand new 434. i had it built by scott shafiroff racing out in long island. heres a link to the motor. i ordered the options: 1095 cfm carb package, callies dragonslayer 4340, crower lifters, stud girdle, sfi harmonic balancer, ati sfi flex plate, lunati rods, and the ss version that has a more aggressive cam and pushes 625 hp.
http://www.shafiroff.com/434_595_engine.asp
it will be nice not to be spending money on nitrous anymore, well for a while anyway kind of glad in a way and kind of sad to see the end of this project but i gots to go faster. thanks to everyone who've complimented me on my "305" since i've been on this board and i can't wait to post some vids of my new project.

Nice, very nice! Dont worry there is still a few of us that will see 11 sec's out of a 305. I'm going to a bigger cam and I spent money on the 305 that wont transfer over to a 350, $400 worth of head work on the old LB9 heads. Along with a bigger stall I know I will run 11's. Willie, with that crazy 305 he's building will be there and Tim is in the 11 sec club already. Here's to wheels up with the new motor. :hail: to the 305 king.

IIRC (which I might not) I think it's a 4.155" bore and 4" stroke.

You SUCK!!! Thats the exact engine I was planning on getting early next year. You'll have to let us know how it turns out. I plan on starting out with that engine and going beyond. But that's a ways down the road. keep us posted.

i ran it one nite on motor and went 13.1 but it was tuned for the nitrous if i tuned it for motor i would say easy 12.8. that was the only time i made a pass on motor and the was only because my bottle was empty.
texaslt1, i'll keep you posted. i'm going to video the dyno when i go there thursday.

I'm looking at a Midwest converter nitrous 2800 stall. I think I will go good with my new cam GM Cam . I had my heads clean, stainless valves added, and a 3 angle valve .

i went to pick up the motor last wed. unfortunately after i drove 125 miles and left at 5:15 am. got there at 7:30 waited for the man to get there at 9. when he gets there he goe's in the back and then comes out and says we have a dilemma with your motor you won't be taking it home today. they made 3 pulls on the dyno before they went home for the night left the engine on the dyno over night, in the morning there was some water under the engine. so the builder (who apoligized about 10 times) says he has to break it down to find the problem. so we leave and call him back later in the day he said one of the heads had a hairline crack in it and was the cause of the water. so it is all back together and waiting for me to go back and pick it up this wed. the dyno sheet read 646 hp@ 6300rpm and 595 lbs of ft torque. i can't wait to install this baby and all the other new parts i got. i will post some pics of the motor and the install.

NICE! Did it infact cost what it says on the website or did it go for a little more? This is definitely the engine I want to get when the time comes, just a matter of deciding what I want in it. Good luck man, thats going to be a beast

i got a 6 pt. roll bar in here now. but recent nhra rule changes call for a 10 pt cage for anything faster than 10.99. that rule change has pissed a lot of people off. t-top cars are considered open pit cars and now need 6 pts for anything 13.99 or faster same as a vert. i just bought the new rule book and its in there but i planned on finishing the cage anyway so i'm not that pissed.

Well that sucks.... I guess I'm going to have to invest in a 8 pt cage this winter when I drop in the new motor (blown 383 going into a t-top z28)... What are they good to? Any other safety reqs they changed for t-top cars running 13.99 or faster, 5 pt harness, firejacket, ds loop? I need to order a rulebook, I just haven't gotten around to it.

Luckily the brand new 1/8 mile track right beside my house is IHRA, guess i'll be racing there for a while until I can get a cage. Guess the good thing is I won't be getting a cage until I do a motor swap, so I probably will have needed it anyway.

Right next to your house or close to it? That would be cool havinga track that close. I have to travel 40 minutes to the local track and that's lucky, most people have much further than that.

well things are moving right along. the engine is in the car, almost finished with the electrical work. next we'll tackle the fuel supply. headers should be here next week after checking them for fit they will go out to be jet-hot coated. one thing that sux is i can't fit even a 2" air filter on the intake and clear the cowl even though it's a 4" tall cowl!! this install is taking me some time but everything will be perfect when im done. friday i will be putting on the scatter shield and then i'll bolt up the tranny. hopefully by the end of the month i'll be ready to fire her up

oh crap, I thought a 4" would be plenty big. what intake are you using and how tall is the spacer? Also what hood do you have? I'm putting together a list of things I would need to do this engine swap, trying to get an idea of the financial requirements.

Here's a question though, how do you think that engine would perform if it had a fuel injection system on it? I'm thinking something like the Accel 90* elbow with an aftermarket LS1 tb and port injection, or something similar to the Holley commander system. The reason I am considering going the fuel injection route is for ease of tuning, nitrous control if I decide to get it, and the possibility of a poweradder in the future. Thoughts?

it has a dart intake and the spacer is 1". the hood is a harwood 4" cowl. the intake is alot taller than the one i had on the 305. the 305 had a 4" air filter on it and no problems closing the hood, but the new intake is tall and even with a 2" filter it doesn't close.
sorry but i really don't know about a fi set-up on this engine. i was so turned off by the fi system that was on my 305 thats why i went carb. i had tuning issues running a 150 shot on the fuel injection set-up that i gave up!! give shaffiroff a call and ask for mike and he'll answer all your questions. 1-800-295-7142. keep ya posted

no problem, I just wanted to see if you had any thoughts. It'll be atleast a year before I'm ready to get that engine, but I'm trying to get as much information together now as I can so that I know what I'm getting into and what I need. Once the time gets closer I'll make a decision of FI/carb. For now I'll just keep in mind that its gonna cost a lot Thanks for any info though.

i'm just about ready to fire her up the only thing left to do are the headers, which where supossed to be here fri. then monday and now i'm hoping they get here tommorrow. had them made by a company in p.a. called stahls once i get them i have to bolt them on make sure they fit then take them back off and send them to jet-coat which will take another 2 days. in the mean time i'm putting my old long tubes on so we don't have to keep pushing the car in and out of the garage bay everyday.

I read in the September 5th National Dragster that the NHRA is not changing the rules on T top cars. You don't need a bar until 11.99 like any other car. Look for another post about it in this forum.

thats about how i was smiling when i started this baby up!! damn and it was with open headers too. i'm waiting for my headers to get back from jet hot coating but for now i put my old hooker long tubes on just to drive it. they are definetly choking the engine cause they are 1 3/4 and the new ones are 2" which are required. i hope the thing hooks at the track cause it just smokes the tires on the street in 1st or 2nd gear. and hell yea it's quick. and i thought my 305 was alot of fun these is going to be a blast! definetly will make it to the track a few times before the end of the season then it's going in to have the 6 pt into a 10 pt. and then will be tucked away for the winter. i'll post some times when i get some.

are you talking about the 04 NHRA rule book? if so what page? On NHRA.com if you search for t tops the first thing that comes up is a statement saying that its just a rumor and theyre NOT changing the ttop rules.
