Track Today... does this sound right?

Well I made it up to the track today, and I got 4 runs in. It was the first 4 runs of my lifetime at a track, and naturally I need to work on R/Ts. Here's my runs:

15.979@84.90 2.342 60 ft
16.003@85.02 2.407 60 ft
15.923@84.59 2.298 60 ft
15.941@85.29 2.342 60 ft

I personally don't think there bad for a 305 TPI engine with 175k on it. Do they look about right to you guys? I think my 3.08 gears are hurting me pretty bad, with 3.23's will I do much better?

Any input is appreciated.

It was cool at the track today, with a strong head-wind, I think the wind hurt me a little too.

i was gonna say.. my stock TBI 305 beat your times, then i saw your running AT.

ya sounds about right im sure their a lil room for improvement, when i first ran i was high 15's low 16's and now if my car would ever run good, i can make 15.7 constant, 15.6 best time ever

not bad for first time out.

could get the 60 foot alittle better most likely.

3.42's would be even better.

Hey Mystic those are fairly consistent times. Were you going off the second light on the last run? Little more practice at consistency and you should be ready for the brackets trophy.

Let me know when your going again I will take the time off and get the GTA up there.

Yeah the last run was right on the second light.. just a tad early, but still a good run otherwise. I probably won't be going again for a while, I just ordered headers and a 3" Catco cat... those are my next mods. Plus I have a 3.23 rear end I want to put in.. but I figure one mod at a time, then get a track time. Hopefully the headers will be on in the next 2-3 weeks.

Have you ever ran your car? I'd like to see you get out there and run it.

Nope not yet. I have some mods sitting in the house also. Headers, Runners, port work to be done. I want to get an initial time though and see the improvements. So I will take her out probably in two weeks. She better be in the high 14's at least right now. If not I know I am out of tune somewhere. Were you standing on the brake at all or just idling and stomping on the gas.

For burn outs, or take off...?

Take off I just stomped on the gas when I went... 2nd light.

Burn outs I had to do a brake stand basically.

For takeoffs of course, we wouldn't want you running over an official by not using your brakes during burnout

Slow 60' times but nice consistancy. Dial in 15.92 after that and hope the car doesn't find additional traction.

Even on test and tune days you should practice dialing in. After a couple of passes and you don't change anything, guess what the next pass will be then see just how accurate you can be.

I need to get out to the track again and practice my reaction times, but I have no problems with traction. It's basically stock, not enough power to have traction problems yet.

what kind of elevation are you at? your consistancy is awesome, but that car is capable of low 15's stock.
if you get the launch down better that time will really drop at the big end.
.1 seconds on the 60' will almost give you .2 at the end...
put 4.10 gears in, and a posi... 14's for sure!

Elevation? I really don't know, It seems pretty close to sea, but I don't have a definate answer.

I think I need a new MAF, plus my engine is at 175k, valve seals starting to leak a bit... I'm sure my rings aren't the tightest either... I don't think the time is half bad for it, I do know I need more gear though.

I'm planning on the 3.23 rear end because I already have it... Then headers are coming pretty soon. We'll see how things go then, I have a 350 in the garage, so that will probably be in, sometime in the summer hopefully.

An auto305 trans am will not do low 15's stock, the 350's were at low 15's stock on the Trans Am's. I think he's probably only about .2 - .3 over the stock 1/4 times now. Not really bad for a high mileage car. Infineon Raceway is basically at sea level.
