new setup, will the 305 net sub 13.5's?

well, i got the new tranny in the car this past weekend. it's a built 700r4 w/ a ~2400 stall 10" ATI torque converter. when i tested it on the street, i did nothing but spin the tires through first and most of second so i couldn't really get a feel for how much faster it is, but from a roll, it definitely seems to pull harder. i do need to do some carb tuning on it, cause with the increased stall, the secondaries open too fast now(i know, i need a double pumper..eh)

here is what she ran last year w/ a stock 700r4/1800stall converter and 3.73's on wore out BFG Drag Radials 275/60/15's:

60': 2.02 (still spinning some, tires where GONE)
1/8 et: 8.87ish (can't remember off the top of my head)
1/8 mph: 80ish (again, need to grab the timeslips
1/4 et: 13.75
1/4 mph: 100.5

here is what i did to here over the off season:

car lost 150lbs, now down to 3300lbs with driver
brand new 275/60/15 m/t et street radials
4.10's
2400stall 10" ATI converter (motor seems to spin faster with the smaller converter)
built 700r4 w/ shift kit and rebesto clutches/bands

if you need more info let me know, what do you think she's gonna run?

If you can get mid 1.8 60ft you should be able to get some good low 13's. What track are you going to?

Matt, when you say the engine spins faster do you mean it rev's higher or it revs quicker?

I would assume the smaller converter is like a lightened flywheel in a way.

planning on going to Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds. where is Dallas and do you wanna come along?

eric, it rev's quicker. i suppose i could rev it higher, but i don't think my valvetrain would like it. shift point stays at 5500

right now i am just waiting to get my tires here. i ordered them a few days ago and i used paypal to pay, so there is going to be a bit of a wait. but hopefully they will be here sometime late next week.

i am also thinking about underdrive pulleys and an msd box. i know they are both debatable things, but i have seen hard proof that both work, even on mild buildups like mine.

there is no reason i shouldn't 60' in the 1.75-1.8 range with traction.

TRY SWAPING A CAM THAT IS FOR THE POWER BAND OF YOUR TORKCONVERTER IF YOU HAVENOT DONE THAT--With a stock cam shaft the 2500 stall is to much and you are almost out ot the powerband of the motor wich means that you are not using all the avaible power you have---
just my 2 cents

it doesn't have the stock cam, don't worry. you cannot buy a new ATI converter with a universal stall speed. when you order, they build it to your combo. it's exactly where it needs to be.

Its not a diesel, even most stock motors make peak torque above 2500 rpm.

screw tomorrow, i put the new spring in this afternoon! wow! before, i had a brown spring in the secondaries and they opening too fast, so the motor would get loaded up with fuel if i punched it instead of rolled into the throttle. now, i put the black spring in, it works really well, no loading up and very smooth all the way throught the rpm band. can't wait to get her to the track, hopefully next week

is the black one step "tighter" than the brown. i believe the black spring won't allow opening until 6k RPMS for the secondaries on a mild 350 if i remember correctly. it's been a while since i looked at the charts. i think i'm running a silver spring in mine, but you might want to double check if you skipped a few springs there. hope this helps as well.

yeah, i needed a tighter spring, the secondaries were opening too quick. of course, it makes me wonder if i have it jetted too high in the back, cause i don't think i should have to run the stiffest avlble spring.
