I was wondering if any of you all drive your cars at any E.C.T.A. races, or at the Texas mile, things like that. I am a big fan of a 1-mile full acceleration run. Any one here do this type of running? If so what is your trap speed or top speed. What mods have you done to gat your car to go that fast, etc.. Also a Silver State run entry would be cool. I would like to get about 180+ in a mile, that would be sweet.

Not to sound like a jerk or anything....but youll need WAY more than that L03 thats in your car right now.
I don't think you will find any tests that resemble that other than magazine tests. Drag racing, certain road courses, and auto cross races are about the only organized types of racing out there.

They actually have a mile long track for that? I would have redlined 5th gear about 10 seconds after the quarter mile was done. Stupid 4.10 gears.
i wish they had more LONG tracks for that. i mean 1/4 mile racing is fun but when your only trapping mid 90's, its boring. i gotta get a motor but the car will hit 140mph. and i would like to top her out, but dare not do it on a public road
yes, its out in west Texas somewhere on an old decommissioned Air Force base.

The East Coast Timing Association does this type of racing. As does the Texas mile. Every year they use a closed down airport and let it fly for a standing mile. Several motorcycles have broken 200 mph in the mile, and a few cars, some Vettes, a couple vipers and purpose built cars.ECTA

Yeah I know, Itll only go about 105-115, havent tried it yet. I am currently looking into several upgrades, like a 6-speed, new rear-end, and an engine upgrade. Itll take time and money. Ive got the time, the money Im working on. I like all types of racing, But this type, and drag racing are my favorites. Not to sound like a jerk or anything....but youll need WAY more than that L03 thats in your car right now.
Sorry not a fan of NASCAR at all. And I live in Bristol. Go figure. I was just wondering if anyone had done top speed tests, and what they did to achieve there speed.

I got no clue how fast mine will go, the pimpin airplane speedo only goes to 140km/h revving @ 3500RPM so i doubt ill get much more without it throwing a rod through the case
Damn that TH-350 and 4.11 rearend...

Just because you're not a fan doesn't mean that an SB2 358 engine wouldn't be awesome. The local dirt trackers get up to 120 in 1/8 mile with their NASCAR engines and carbs. They're...not cheap.Originally posted by DrummerDad

There is a place online if you're really interested in an SB2 that sells used SB2 equipment. I know someone on this board has one swapped into his camaro and a few people have adapted the heads and intake.

Im just looking for any legal top speed racers.
I top out at around 130 mph but that's in a 1/4 mile
You could do the www.silverstateclassic.com race but it's considered a rally race. The main race is 90 miles long and there's different speed classes. The goal is to do the course with an average speed of your class without going faster. Even the 100 mph class can run 130+ on the open flats because they have to slow down through the narrows.
I think the record is held by a C6 Corvette in the unlimited class with an average speed of something like 180 mph. The car did the 90 mile course in about 30 minutes. It could have been faster. I haven't been keeping up on it for a few years now.
NASCAR can sustain the high MPH at 8000 rpm becuase of gearing. They're not very fast off the line. Short course oval they use better gears since they don't stay at high speed for long but need the accelleration to get out of the corners.
Put the worst possible highway gears in the diff. Build a 4L80E transmission with the built in OD and throw a Gear Vender overdrive on the back of it. 70 MPH down the highway, the engine would be idling. Top speed of 150+ mph is easily obtained but it would be a dog out of the hole.

To get 180mph in the mile, you will need to have a car that traps a minimum of 125mph in the quarter, has perfect trans gear spacing, and also has the proper rear end gear ratio.
Its probably not going to happen. I was thinking it would probably take about 600+ H.P. The tranny and gearing are relatively easy. 6 speed, and 3.08 gears. The calculator says that'll do it, but then there is the H.P. issue. I guess Ill just build the car like I want, and run it at an event. Then I can see what it can do, and report back. I was just curious. Someone somewhere has run at one of these events with a streetable 3rd gen.

Hey, I live in Elizabethton, TN, just south of Bristol. I have a white with black strips 1991 RS. I hade my car on I-26 out of the numbers and on to the "MPH" on the 110 speedo. Not to sure how fast that is, but I bet it is more than 115. I never realized that there was a TGO member so close.....
