what do you think of my combo?

well, it's way to cold to do anything to my car right now and i'm waiting on parts for my engine, so i'm kinda bored.

L98 block 355
TFS 195's
perf. RPM
650 carb
215/215 .540/.540(comp 270HR)w/ crane 1.6's
10.4:1 compression
0 decked block
2500rpm stall
3.73 posi
longtubes and duals dumping before the rear end

i think the car weighs around 3300 with me in it, gonna have to get it weighed this spring. any guesses on HP or ET or comments in general are welcome.

sounds like a pretty stout street setup, you might want a bigger carb though. i would say that car is low 12's easily with some good traction

Cam, converter and carb are probably a little small to be optimized for your clylinder heads. I'd say upper 12s with drag radials or slicks.

i know it's all rather small but it's a street car. the plan is to run it with this setup and maybe stick a bigger cam in later this year.

I was going to say… I’d agree with the rest of the suggestions for a race only combination, but what you have listed there is a nice, mild street combination that will be quite fast and nice to drive.

If you start going down the road with a bigger cam, then you might as well reconsider the converter, carb, gears…

even with the larger cam i think it'll be nicer to drive than my 327 with an xe268(224/230) and stock converter, which was pretty friendly once warm(choke not hooked up). i think a larger carb would help even with the smaller cam.

that and i really want a solid 12 car.

Re: what do you think of my combo?

I've got it together and running. I wasn't able to sell the cam so I ran it. I'm pretty impressed with the way it runs, super mellow to drive but will lay 30' long black stripes if you want to.

My "2500 stall" actually stalls at about 3100, I'm not sure if thats good or bad though.

I'm having some trouble getting it to shift into 3rd manually, i have to let off and wait for the rpms to fall down to 4000 before it'll go into 3rd. if I leave it in drive it shifts at 4000 through every gear.

I'm going to try to get some times this week.

More stall is good.

2-3 shift is symptom of need for tranny rebuild & enhancement.

Re: what do you think of my combo?

brand new tranny, it shifts fine under 4k but not over.

I kind of doubt that the shop that built it put a shift kit in like they said they did.

I'm pretty sure that the problem lives somewhere in the valvebody and that the clutches and band are still alive because once it's in gear it holds great. I'm going to get an opinion from someone I trust more soon.
