Well, I almost got to go racing today

Friend and I were heading up to Redding Dragstrip here in CA and only made it about 20 miles away from the start point. His tow rig developed a serious problem, the rear axle bearing burnt up. Ended up dropping my car and trailer off at home and going back to tow his truck home on his trailer The car they were going to race just followed us back. Some nice chunks and burnt gear oil came out of the diff and when we pulled the axle out. Oh well, next one is in a couple weeks

Yup Some of the rollers of the bearing were ground flat and the axle is junk now. Come to find out it would have been such a good night at the track as far as not being busy. Another friend went up and said there was maybe 50 cars. We could have gotten in so many runs

Depending on what axle it is, you could probably use a “problem solver” axle bearing (the rollers are offset so that they ride on a new spot on the axle). Not that that is the best or strongest way to fix it, but it is the cheapest and fastest.

It already had a repair bearing on that side plus the surface on the axle is just toast. I'm glad it didn't come apart trying to get it off the highway. He's going to use the bad axle as part of a swing out spare tire carrier now
