Test & tune last night...
Tested the car last night...got a lot of runs..learned a lot...new personal best
First- PCMSforless.....garbage.. I bought the piggyback chip from them and that's all it did was turn on the service engine light (3 dif. codes)
I didn't gain or lose e.t. with the chip.
13.65 best with chip
Then- played with the timing a little bit. car was at 4' btc. I ended up at 8' btc. I still want to play with this a little bit.
chip in- 13.50 and 13.60 chip out- 13.56,13.52
Then- I have a tpi car. The intake tubing(from filters to TB), so I thought from looking at it and from what I've heard, restricts air flow. I took it out and ran a 13.91. The intake does NOT affect airflow. At least on my car.
Finally- My very last run of the night. After all that, with the chip out, timing at 8'.
Track temp: 87'
air temp.: 63'
60' ... 1.94
1/4... 13.40
MPH.. 102.48
next i mess around with fuel psi!!

Did you go to Esta Safety Park in Cicero or NYIRP in Leicester?

I was at NYIRP last night too! I knew that car looked familiar.
Here's the car I was driving, she needs some paint.

Re: Test & tune last night...
thats moving pretty good for those mods... i always thought a L98 with a 5 speed would be very quick. i ran against a full bolt on mustang bullit gt and he ran 13.30's at 102 with 1.80 60 foots... i could have had him i think if i had a stick shift.

Orr89RocZ- thanks
327??- Where were you parked? I remember seeing a white camaro but unsure if it was you. There was quite a few camaro's out there. I see you have a helmet on. What's she run? Where in NY are you from?

Re: Test & tune last night...
I was in staging lanes 3 or 4, as soon as I ran I got right back in line. That was my second time out. The best I could muster last night was a 13.18 at 106, the best time with this motor was 13.0 at 108 wednesday night. All I need now is to get off the line, 2.0 60's all night long on street tires.
was it your car the announcer kept talking about? kashmir camaro?
I'm from near brockport, it's about a 45min drive to nyirp for me.

13.0 on street tires?....nice. You could easily get into 12's with some sticky tires. good luck.
Yes, that was me. Cashmier camaro from Camillus. He was up in the bleachers talking to my girlfriend for a while. I definately want to go back there this year but I think I'll trailer the car next time. I had to drive 2 vehicles: 8 cyl. car + 8 cyl. truck = a lot of gas.

Re: Test & tune last night...
When we go, my dad and I, he drives his truck towing a car dolly and I drive the car. It definitely cost's a bunch in gas but we don't have a trailer and are afraid of breaking something without a way home, putting the car on the dolly is a pain and hard to maneuver.
I like the announcer there, last year I brought a ham sandwich from home, he was standing behind me while I was eating near the burnout box going "Boy, I sure could go for a ham sandwich. Do we sell ham sandwiches here?"
Next time you go send me a PM, I'll try to meet you there.

Re: Test & tune last night...
Sure, I'll pm ya. Is that the announcer for mom's or NYIRP?
At least you have a plan to get the car home if it breaks. My only plan was a tow strap!!! with my mom driving the truck!!! I have to find a cheap trailer now because I think I'll be going there a few times a year. Esta doesn't t&t very often.

The announcer is for nyirp as far as I know.
Nyirp has what's basically T&T on wednesdays too, it's T&T for about 2hrs then racing with T&T mixed in. WAY less cars than on fridays too.

327???, 19 z28 92,
Could you guys give me a PM when you two go back to NYIRP? I would like to tag along. I am in the army station north of Watertown @ Fort Drum. I haven't been to NYIRP in along time. I like it way better than Esta, but it's just to far to drive at times. Anyway Esta charges 25.00 just to T-n-T, that's to much IMO for a track that runs once a week.

zz17iroc-Sure I'll PM ya, I'll probably be down there almost weekly for a while at least. I don't know how often 19 z28 92 will be going because it's a long drive.

Good numbers...The problem with just removing the intake stuff. Is your pulling in hot under hood air. Thats why those tb mounted K@N filters dont work in the real world. On the dyno with the hood open maybe.

Re: Test & tune last night...
Wow, bunches of F-body guys to meet up with at NYIRP, awesome. I'm gonna make a drive out in a few weeks, it is a haul from Syracuse, 3.73's on a poly mounted rear axle make for a loud ride w/ terrible mileage, but I'd still rather make the drive than mess with Esta, that a whole lot of sitting around to get 4-5 runs in, all the while paying 3 times what it costs to go to NYIRP, which gets you easily twice as many runs.
Now, do any of you guys come out and cruise/race on Friday nights in Syracuse. I usually come out and just shoot the breeze with guys over at McDonalds on Erie blvd, or over at Thompson Rd. Dunkin Donuts. Would love to meet up with some 3rd gen guys.
BTW, those really are impressive numbers, thats a strong for a fairly stock TPI.

I'll try to make it down this friday for the Nats. I thought Esta was going to have a friday night street races like they did last year, I guess not.

Re: Test & tune last night...
MikeH- I figures it would pull it hot air but tried it anyway just to see. Sure enough, made it worse.
I used to go out to the blvd. on fri. and sat. nights but not so much anymore. It seems to have been overrun with ricers and bikes. Unless I don't know where to look. Also....kids.
Probably won't be going to NYIRP til I find a trailer. Anybody know where to find a cheap car trailer? Any condition, something to fix up?
No Fri. night at Esta this weekend as far as I know.

Re: Test & tune last night...
Not sure when it starts to affect it, my car runs an SLP cold air with K&n.. in it current state I lose 3/10s with it on as opposed to running open throttlebody.. Then again its a 10 second car, but even wneh running lower 12s it helped.. I could see where it would hurt on a heat soaked engine maybe.. Thats just my experience with.
I once read, I'm not sure where though, that most cold air intakes only suck in about 5* cooler air.
