why am i so slow

alright i got a 92 rs 305 tbi,

my mods are hooker 3" exhaust, msd coil, msd wires, accel plugs, msd 6aL, edlebrock open element air filter, ac delete, new upgraded fuel pump, i have lakewood control arms, eibach springs, kyb agx shocks, hotckis sway bars,

was told i would run low 16s maybe high 15s, but i run a shitty 18 at 70 mph my best run was like 18.3 at 75 mph thats horrible a cavalier would beat me, now my tranny seems to shift kinda shitty, i checked everything out my timing is set to 0 like it should be, so what the hell am i doing wrong my 60ft was consistently 2.3s which isnt too bad with bald tires,

now i got pissed and ordered some 3.42s and hooker headers and ypipe, so hopefully that will help and i got a transgo shift kit getting installed right now

Re: why am i so slow

make sure your car is in working order before you buy one performance part. When was the last time you had a tune up?

Re: why am i so slow

I think you would gain some with a bump in timing, along with a tune up.

Re: why am i so slow

the motor and car only have about 87k miles on them, i just gave the car a tune up about 50 miles ago, i replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, coil, and my distributor module, the car itself runs real good its just not performing i guess,

now for advancin my timing i can do that no problem but how far should i go and how will i know cause the mark only goes to what 6 degrees advance and dont i have to run higher octane gas if i do that,

i think my rear end has the stock non posi gears in it,

and i would like to change my headers no matter what the air tubes have been removed and they leak where they are plugged up

Re: why am i so slow

might try a set of 1.6 roller rockers, i did that in my l03 and noticed a huge sotp gain for something that only cost 200 bux and took a half an hour install time, just my 2cents.

btw my old l03 barely ran with 0* timing.

i'd bump it up to 6* if i were you and no i doubt you will need premium gas, i ran 12* on my l03. It ran a 17.1 with my open elemented, msd, 1.6 rocker armed, catbacked l03 and it had 144k miles with a realy wornout engine (low compression missed lots inconsistently from 2 cylinders).

Re: why am i so slow

i will work on advancing my timing and getting some better gas, as for the roller rockers i have just about enough saved up now to get my world products s/r heads so i will probally do all that first

Re: why am i so slow

If you can, cut your cat out, or replace it if you have to deal with emissions. Sounds like its clogged to me. a stock running L03 @ sea level should be in the mid to low 16's or high 15's if running well

Re: why am i so slow

i see youre located in New Castle... is that Delaware? if so, did you run at Cecil? its a very good track, and with your mods you should have ran MUCH better that a 17s at 80mph. what was your 60ft? were you spinning during your launch?

FWIW, i have a 84' LG4 powered Z28 with similar mods as your TBI... we should be making roughly the same power. however, my car runs mid 15s at 87mph. sounds like there may be some issues with your car. id definately get those addressed before spending any more money on performance parts

Re: why am i so slow

yea i know i should have run a lot better than i did, my first camaro was a 86 z28 with a 305 and it ran 15s with no mods but gears in the rear,

i just put a new distributor in today cause mine died on me which could have been some of the problem for sure, so i bought a mallory its nice and way better made, my car is runing real good and pulls hard again, im still going to take my car to my buddy terry he owns a shop called street lethal performance , im gonna get him to overlook everything and make sure im good to go,

no the new castle i live in is pa, i have to go to a shitty track called quaker city raceway, its so bad there that if i drive an hour to pittsburgh raceway park everyone runs about 1 second quicker and 7mph faster

me having bald tires doesnt help either i just ordered a set they should be here on monday
