mine and yours setup
well i decided to keep my 88 t/a after much thought.what i would like to know is what you guys think it is capable of.i have a friend of mine in a car club for probe's that claims no matter what i do it won't matter he'll take me.a little info on his car,it's a klze 2.5l 10:1 comp motor with bolt ons and a 75 shot.which i've seen him first hand blow the valves on with the shot.my t/a is a 5.0 or 5.7.haven't made it that far, pulling the heads to run numbers very soon.it was tpi and now has a edelbrock performer 600cfm carb, performer rpm mani, hei dist, msd 6al,and a 3" catback.it has t-tops so it's a little heavy and will be getting sub frame connetors.i'm about to get a new set of heads and am looking to get some afr fully assembled heads,1.6 roller,a nice comp cams,as high a the heads will allow, and some good headers with a custom 3" exhaust back to 40 series mufflers,no cats.now he claims he can take a c-5 vette but has no proof.so that's neither here nor there.i'd like to know what you guys think about this and what luck you've had with the 305's and 350's.again not sure what mine is.i think with this package i should see some intresting et's so let me know what setups you've run and what you've gotten in the 1/8th and 1/4.any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
----------
also,i always forget this, trans is no problem,700r4 built to hold 500 hp,2k stall and shift kit,all already installed.looking to put a full posi rear end in as of now it has the drum rear end and is not full posi.i think before it wouldn't have been a problem beating him with the stock trans installed but the built trans has slowed it quite a bit.that's why i'm going heads and cam.thanks again.

If you want to know what people have run, check the Reader's Rides or search. Having everyone post their times here would be a little ridiculous.
Having said that, the next thing I'd say is keep it at the track. Trying to "prove" anything on the street is a combination of illegal, dangerous, stupid, and non-quantitative. I'm sure there are plenty of people who think they "took" me because they roared ahead of me on the street. Since I keep it to the speed limit, going around me after I back off proves nothing. With both of us at the track, the story will be very different.
Heads, cam, and exhaust are key, and you don't give any details there. Then, it all has to work together as a package, including converter stall, traction, etc.
If a "built" transmission slowed down the car, the transmission was "built" wrong.
Of course, since you/we don't know if you're working with a 305 or 350, most of this is moot, anyway.

If you know what he runs, then tell us what that is and we'll have a better idea what it will take to run quicker than that.

all i've seen him runin the1/8th is 9.8 but he said all he did was launch and drive down the track.he claims he can pull 9.5 all motor and 8.8 on the bottle.even with a 305 with a carb mani cam heads msd and exhaust i would think i could still do more than that right?

Re: mine and yours setup
stock heads, was looking at a set of afr l98 fully assembeled heads, with 1.5 or 1.6 rollers.they hold up to .600 lift so i was thinking a cam right around there.but i just called a guy local guy with a built 350 500+hp bored .060 over cammed heads everything except disty, carb,he's keeping thise for a stoker he has.it's in a 80 camaro now and i'm going to look at it and take a ride in it sunday.if i get that and locate a good rear to hook up,i think my buddy will have more then his hands full.

However much money you think its going to cost, double it. Seriously.
First off, you have to find out what youre working with. You dont need to pull the heads either to find out. Look on the back of the engine block on the driver's side and it should say 5.0 or 5.7 on the back. Without that, you/we are in the dark.
Another way, is to take off the oil cap and see if you can read the casting numbers. If the numbers end with "083" its most likely a 350.
Once you figure that out, we can give you a better idea on what you should do.

Re: mine and yours setup
ok,so i talked to a guy today that is selling a built 350 bored 60 over, rods, pistons, dart heads,205 160 valves,BUILT.i can't remeber what all he said off hand, but he says it's full race engine with streetablilty.says about 500+hp.so,if i get that, and get a rearend that will hold it,i know i won't have any trouble handing my friend his as^,but what do you think i'll be looking at then?
