Third time out after porting heads, 10.65 t56 woohoo

After putting combo together it has been a lot of bugs, initially had issues with the PW being capped off on injectors due to ecm limitations. Fixed that, and had to basically do a lot of math figuring where PW should be after lowering FP to a reasonable 50 from 56psi.
Then last outing (second time) car lost (4) mph!! Found that to be, the rod that holds rotor on MSD dissy, the factory weld had broken and timing had been retarding its self gradually - so it ran 11.0s with timing 15° retarded. So anyway after guessing on tune, fixing the timing issue I was of to track today..

First pass tonight 10.70 @ 128, 1.55 60ft leaving at 5700 and spinning hard.

Second pass, decided to do a large burnout, seems the Mickeys liked that.
10.67 @ 129. 1.52 dead hooking, shifted easy due to good launch, did not want to mess up good pass.

Last pass, big burnout again, still leaving 5700 dead hooked again and repeated 1.52 60ft, shifted like I should and went 10.65 @ 129.

I am really anti big burnout, but contrary to M/T advise with a stick car they wanted it and using 12psi as well... I think next outing I will up launch RPM, should be able to squeeze High 10.5s from this combo, then I want to change to single plane and hit deep 10.5 or high 40s.. I know the miniram is my limiting factor now by 30cfm, so sigle plane should hgelp that a good bit.

I am very happy with the combo now, pump gas, 6 speed street car in full street trim, and even added weight this year with new carpet and some missing plastic parts.

Will probably throw spray on sometime soon and hope to hit 9.8s i would think anyway.

Thank you, car still has some more leaving harder.. I hear it was pulling wheels about a foot.. Like I said that was 5700, I think it will handle 6000 or so. I did add fuel the last pass and did gain .4 mph but think that was due my driving and not the richen up.

Zone89: The clutch is a standard spec 3 with sprung hub and 6puck plate, great clutch in my opinion for the money. Second one I had in this car, first one took much abuse.

good stuff man, glad to hear it. There is a dyno day at J&S dyno June 26 i think. Most hp wins, i think you can take it with a 150 shot... pitspeed event. Curious what it puts down on the spray

Ok, do you think it is slipping a ever so slight bit to allow it to keep from bogging to dead clamping? My DFX is biting HARD and i might try a clutch that will slip enough to keep the bog away. Need to try a higher launch like you are, nearly 6K. But i doubt my DFX is better than a spec 3.

I am sure there is some slip, often I think there is a small amount on gear changes.. But my flywheel also weighs 36 lbs and crank weighs 45 I think, so thats a lot of rotating mass to try and stop.. Also there is probably still some tire slip and I know there is a small amount of tire on wheel slip. Also using 28" tall tire allowing sidewalls to take some of the hit to, more than a 26.

I think mine will handle more RPM still, I hit a 1.46 60ft at Maryland last year, that was launching over 6k.

Make sure you are transferring weight well, that helps absorb some of the hit to keep power up.

Re: Third time out after porting heads, 10.65 t56 woohoo

Yea, i left the RS springs in my car in expectation of hoping it would help, it felt good launching at 5100, but still netted the best of a 1.9 60. And evidently you are a sure example of showing i need to launch at a higher RPM. I just get nervous with the rev limiter smacking that high on the 2 step for some reason, i know damn well it wont hurt it. The next time i go i think i will make sure i have the lower control arms replaced with aftermarket. Everything is tubular aftermarket but them and i think they take a pretty big hit launching hard like that.
