Back in the 11's :) Need traction :(

Two weeks ago I was still stuck in the 12-teens. Made it to the track on Friday and went 11.89 at almost 114mph. The DA was at 2400'. My big problem is becoming the 60'. When the track is perfect, I pull pretty consistent 1.60 60' times. When it goes even a little south, I am looking at 1.7's or worse. I have 70/30 struts on the front with stock Iroc springs and no sway bar. LCARB's in the back, air bags, 26x11 QTP's, jegster adjustable TA and adjustable shocks. I have done some messing around with little change in 60'. I am debating some trick front springs or maybe changing the hole where the lower control arm is mounted (it is in the lowest one now).

Any thoughts on how to hook on a marginal track??

I have tried anywhere from 12 to 18psi. It seems to react best at 14 to 15psi.

try moving the lca to the middle hole, the bottom hole hits the tires really hard. what i imagine is happening is you're hitting the tires hard, which causes them to ball up (wrinkle, ALOT) and when the tires unwad, they bounce (just a little), which is killing your consistancy. this was what my car did. i moved the lca's up, it took the hit out some, and made the 60's faster and more consistant.

Thanks for the input Matt. I am going to give it a try and see what happens this weekend. I would love to be able to hook when the air gets good at night...maybe I could pull some 11.70's!

"Any thoughts on how to hook on a marginal track??"

get folks to chip in to have em spray it down with trackbite, smaller ones often don't or cheat on that to cut cost as weekend runners aren't that important to them as real events where the prep will be beyond pro.

Interesting concept. What I would really like to see them do is issue warnings to the street tire guys..."if you continue to boil the tires at the line, we are going to charge you $5 towards the VHT." I think that pulls up all of the good rubber. I race on street tires from time to time and I can get out of the hole with only a little chirp. It isn't that hard.

Re: Back in the 11's :) Need traction :(

when you say "marginal track" you can't discount bad to no prep as a reason for lower times do to traction loss.

never discount added weight either as an option at such places where a heavier car can go faster as it can hook better.

Re: Back in the 11's :) Need traction :(

I have had success with extra traction by putting two 80lb bags of quick crete in the back. I didn't have them with me this past week. Maybe as a rule I should always take them.
