getting it back together!

trans number 3 for the year! atleast the engine is finally staying together (Praise G0d!)

should be back together by this weekend.







HUGE HUGE HUGE thanks to Fast 383 and Shagwell for the converter and transmission. i'll be updating you guys over the next few days to let you know what it's like on the street. gotta build a crossmember and redo some of the exhaust stuff. should be getting started hard on it this afternoon after my calculus test.

My car is in pieces now, sold my SBC to start the LS conversion. Mine won't be back together until Spring.

th400 has a bte pro-brake rmvb, alto red clutches, case saver, 34 element sprag, etc. the converter is a 9" unit, has a mechanical diod and anti-balooning plate. it should flash to 4800.

the trans is in the car, working on the crossmember now.

in! everything is hooked up, everything has been fabbed, except for the yoke swap on the driveshaft and redoing the exhaust before the x-pipe. i should be driving it tomorrow.

The internals in that trans are exactly what I was running low 5's on, except he has new/better clutches, lol. That's actually the case, pan, and vb I was running last, just changed the shafts and drums to some that hadn't had as much abuse.

Matt are you going to the track this friday? If so, I'll go just to cheer you on. The Iroc got side swiped about 6 weeks ago sending me into the guard rail. So I won't be in my Iroc, but instead I'll be in my Red 92 Z28 I picked up and guess what it's all stock with AC.

back together! drove it, flashes to about 4500ish. i haven't gotten all the way in it yet from a stop. i'd imagine it'd just blow the tires off. can't wait to get it to the track. couple more pics, first one is of the new crossmember i built and the header collectors that i added some flanges to. the other is of the super cooler keeping it cool.





10 min street cruise with a wot pull to the top of first, and going heavy on the pedal yielded about 150* trans temps.

Put the converter against the trans brake when you get a chance. I'd like to get a number in stone for my records. Should go 4800 at 500HP.

How does it feel? Responsive? Should work well with that 3 speed.

The only thing that's hurt is my heart. All that time I put into it and look what happens, I get twin turbos and a very clean untouched 92 Z28 that is now my DD out of the deal. All I can say is thank you LORD!

took the limiter off and going all the way against the converter, it flashes to 4500, so it's a little tighter than i thought, but man it drives GREAT. i can't wait to get it to the track.

That's not bad at all, mine doesn't flash that high on motor either, 4500 would be a good match with your cam combo.

did a 40 mile cruise to school and back today. here's my two reports, first is on the way there, second is on the way back:

ok, drove the pig to macon...it's oober loud...dare i say maybe a muffler change again? ugh...either way, ambient temps were in the mid 60's, averaged 180* water temp, 145* trans temp, 60psi cruising oil pressure. i averaged 3000 rpm, which after a quick calc, is ~55mph (taking converter slippage into account). it also didn't seem to consume too much fuel. was above the F hash mark when i left wartown, still above the hash when i got to macon.

no one wanted to play though?

ok, drove it home, ambient temps 85*. the trans temps never went over 155*, and the water temps 185*. about 15miles of interstate and 5 miles (give or take) of back roads at 3000rpm. i'm very happy so far. i'm not sure i could ask for much more, other than maybe some quieter exhaust. i'm thinking of building some tail pipes or something to get it away from the passenger compartment...

getting the exhaust to the rear of the car definitely helps, any time it exits under the car you'll get some drone etc. but you already know that

well bullets are loud huh......who would have thought

race mufflers are loud.....say it isn't so matt

Step up to fullsize mufflers like the rest of us fast guys and don't annoy the people in the lanes next to you. Besides you'll feel better beating those "loud" race cars with your quieter street car

Do you have any pics of your completed exhaust system? I am in the process of a longtube header installation witha turbo 400 trans. I'd like to see how you routed the tubes for the x-pipe and the duals.

Man, i love the sound of my dual 1 chambers but the T56 keeps things down till i want to get the revs up but i am sure it is just where it might be annoying after a bit.

this is basically it. it's changed a little since this picture, but not enough worth mentioning. what mufflers are you running steve? i was thinking of going to a dynomax ultraflow...but then again, tailpipes would do everything i need to as well..just don't know if i feel like trying to package them or not...

thats awesome....a battery to hold up exhaust for welding? and is that a dosentlast........dont you work at...and arent...hmmm turncoat

lol, that was actually a bad battery out of another car, not one i bought. it was holding the exhaust in place while i fought with the slip-fit collectors (now running bolt-on style collectors ) it's a side post 78 series battery. can't say it was super smart looking back, but i assure you the welder was no where near that battery

yeah, not sure how i'd package those...they'd scrape everything if i were to put them in my current muffler location.

and they're pricey. i'd go with a borla xr1 at that price. i was thinking more like a dynomax ultraflow.

Dynomax ultraflows, Hooker max-flows, are both the same design; Pypes has a straight-through performated screen type muffler as well(not sure what they call theirs). Any of those would definitely be quieter than bullets, as would adding tail pipes.

Didn't you inx-nay the rear seat? If so, cut the humps out of the floor and cover it with some flat tin. Gives you a good spot to tuck full size mufflers underneath w/o loosing any ground clearance.

just some dynomax ultra flows here, I already cut out the back seat area and welded in two boxes that I made into the floorboard, looking back a flat sheet of steel would have been even easier and about the same height, but making the box took 2 days on a lift.

Would be cool if it was body worked into the hood. No too bad. I assume you'll be getting a real hood in the future?

i will be getting a real hood in the future, but not anytime soon. this is a semi-permanant solution. the pictures honestly don't do it any justice either...it's pretty cool looking in person.
