Upgrades to break the 8s next season?
So I been trying to run 7.99 in the 1/8 for the last 3 seasons haven't been able to beat my best of 8.10, I got a little scratch saved up and need something to work on this winter! Heres what im working with:
1989 IROC
355ci - speed pro flat top pistons, vortec heads, edelbrock perf rpm intake, 650 double pumper, LT4 HOT CAM.
700r4- shift kit, EDGE 3000 stall, 3.23 posi BW rearend, bm megashifter
Iroc rims and M/T DR's, LCARBS.
I've got the motor all tuned in now, not touching it! When I went from BFG's to M/T's I started having wheel hop issues and I added moog CC springs and LCARBs and it fixed it but still not getting enough traction. Now I've added lakewood drag shocks and struts and boxed my LCA's. I put a cervini fiberglass cowl hood on, and I bought an autometer tach and shift lite for more accurate shifts. I'm repainting the car so im going to get SFC's to help with the launch and not crack the upper pillars after its painted. I'm thinking of buying the spohn adjustable tubular torque arm, how much would that help with launch? I know I need some gears, but I got the damn 9bolt! I think they came out with a new set of 3.73s for it not sure where to get it though. I may be adding some weld racing wheels also.
Also on the edelbrock intake I heard of you cut about an inch of the divider off its good for ~5hp? Anyone try that?
ANY thing else I should get or work on??

If your running 91 out the back door, you better start launching that thing!
For reference, I run 7.7-7.8 @ 86.

if you're going 91mph you should be going mid 7's, i'm betting its closer to 85-86
either way, aim for a low 1.7x to high 1.6x in the 60ft, to get there you may need more stall and more gear though.
some 150 pills in a plate would definitely get you into the 7's hehehe

Yeah but im running hypereutectic postons with a stock ring gap and I dont want to break anything!
Whats the route to go for 9bolt gears?
How much would a tubular torque arm help w/ launch?

Take it off for the track, or add more HP somehow.

i'd still run a 100 shot on them, running eighth mile isn't anywhere near as hard on parts as running quarter.
a torque arm would be a good investment. but i think that you'll need to either add power or get some gears for it, sorry i'm not help on the 9 bolt gears though

Re: Upgrades to break the 8s next season?
I have a couple questions that I beleave some ppl in this forum can answer. I am trying to figure out if my block is worth a crap. its a mexican 10066036. It is a 4 bolt main. I have been reading some negative stuff about it. here is my main consern. It is a goodwrench block that came with 76cc heads. with that size head on it the compression was 8.5 to 1 if I was to put 64cc heads on it what would my compression be? I estimated 10.5-1. Is that around what it should be? right now with the intake, carb, cam and headers it is geting me through the 8th at 9.1 seconds. Im hoping with the better heads I might atleast get in the mid or high 8s. Any one care to give me their thoughts. Please bare with me. I am just starting out and I am a little ignorant to hot rodding.

Putting on the Welds alone will net you a 7.sec slip, the IROC wheels are heavy as hell... Best of luck and keep us posted.
