Broke into the 12's with a 305!

I finally got my car into the 12's Saturday at the Texas Motorplex. (: This is not a streetable car any longer, but still has the original 95k 305 and T5 tranny.

Race wieght w/driver 3070 (-190 for driver)
It was cool about 55 degrees.

First run:

R/T-----------.584
60'----------1.973
330'---------5.567
1/8----------8.522
MPH---------82.47
1000--------11.069
1/4---------13.184
MPH---------107.15

Second run: Elimination round running on a 13 second index.

R/T----------.658 (didn't want to risk a red)
60'---------1.910
330'--------5.532
1/8---------8.309---------84.12
1000'------10.814
1/4--------12.904*
MPH--------108.04

I ran against a new camaro LS1 that ran a 13.143@106.14. I lost due to running too fast but I was more happy with the 12 second pass. I improved my best time by .5 second (check sig) I will be installing a liquid to air intercooler and Art Morrison front end kit in near future. These should get me deap into the 12's. I am not shelling out money for engine work (heads, cam etc) because I will be installing a 383ci once I get the car totally set up to handle it. No reason to waste money on anything that will not transfer to the 383.

In response to your question 812 many.

I purchased the car new with the intent of racing it one day so the only option on the car was the 305. I wanted to keep the wieght to a minimum. Car weighed 3410 with driver with a fiberglass hood, tossing out the spare tire, jack and back bench.

I shed the rest of the weight by removing the front and rear bumper supports, crash bar in both doors, stereo, speakers, passenger seat and also converted to manual steering. The cool thing is you can't tell by looking at the car.

Like I said the car is not really streetable.

I will be adding a 10 point cage shortly.
