mad dog trap speed with lame ET

Im getting really pissed at these drag radials....Ive tried 18,15, and 12 psi with all types of burnouts with no success. My best sixty foot last night was a 2.1X on a 12.6 pass at 115 MPH. Do I need one of those torque arms with the adjustable pinion angles or what?! On the 12.6 pass I didnt even spray it until middle of second gear. How Quick can go if I hook?....any Ideas

Adjustable torque arm to change the pinion angle, aftermarket LCA and relocation brackets and if you don't already have them, subframe connectors.

Your mph is good for low 12's or high 11's but your 2.1 sixty foot times are hurting. With a 3000 stall converter you should be doing better than that. It could be that the low first gear in the 700R4 is overpowering the tires and causing them to spin.

Since going lower in tire pressure didn't help, go up. A radial, even a drag radial has too stiff of a sidewall to go below 18 psi. From what I've seen they work best no lower than 20 psi.

Leave the drag radials for people who have to race on a DOT tire and buy real slicks for the track.

As a side note, that 700R4 isn't going to last but a couple months in your car. They're hardly reliable at 400 Hp and torque absolutely trashes them. A shot of nitrous generates a lot of torque. Might start thinking of alternatives.

Too true. I'm surprised a stock tranny has lasted this long!! That's good solid GM over-engineering right there.

If I go with the adjustable torque arm, I have to get one that is specific to the trans dont I? And if I thrash the 700R4 AGAIN then will that new torque arm work with a 400? The only think keeping me from a TH400 right now is the 300 dollar torque converter I have that I can only use in the 700. Do I have to worry about twisting the unibody if I launch and hook on the nitrous without subframes--the car makes a little over 500 ft-lbs on the bottle.. thanks for the help guys

It could be the track though. Have you tried going to a different track. I was having the same problem there for a while and the best 60's I could squeeze out were mid 1.9's to 2.0's at my local track. This was leaving at idle too! I went to a different track just a couple of weeks ago and this place is well known for hooking. First pass out 1.84 60'. Easy launch rolling out the hole followed by WOT punch. She hooked perfectly and chirped second. Never has the car done that. I was pysched! I ran a few more times and pulled off a 1.80 60' followed by my best time of 12.47. I was very happy. BTW, my car has a 5speed.

I have a Random Technology adjustable torque arm sitting in my garage....I may not even install it for a while since I know the car will hook. If you can't seem to hook at any track, get an adjustable torque arm and some squat brackets. Set your pinion angle to about 4degrees. These mods should help a bunch. Also, as Stephen mentioned, I wouldn't go below 18psi on the DR's either. I found mine to work best at 20psi(Nitto 275/40). Also, no need for long burnouts with DR's either....just a few seconds until you see smoke then roll forward. Good luck!

Oh, here is a pic of my 1.80 60' footer a couple weeks ago!!

What track are you running at? If you switch to a 400 I'm willing to help with the 700 TQ converter.
