Man oh man, what a blast! I had 200 pounds in the trunk trying to make it work so I was sitting heavy at 3700 pounds. First pass made me laugh so hard! I was on a hardtire for a local class yesterday, so I was on a 275/60/15 primewell, some good ole $75/ea firestone specials. Dumped the clutch on the first pass and spun to a 2.56 sixty. Ran a 15.40@97, lol!

After playing with it some, I managed a 12.70@113 on a 2.054 sixty.not too shabby for my first time managing a clutch, and managing hardtires. Can't wait to get the slicks on it, lol! The t56 wad the best thing for me! The 6.0 is going to be awesome when I get it back together.

 

Wow, that's impressive given no tires, ballast, and only a 5.3! The 113mph is real nice at that weight. It's hard to say what you can run once you get some tires and seat time with the T56.

me too. i still haven't messed with carb tuning at all...just took a stab in the dark on jetting, i'm sure it has a bit more in it. i'm also still afraid to power shift, so this is with me lifting on the shifts. between the sticky tire, pulling the weight back out, and getting the tune together, i think its got 117mph, and maybe 11.70's in it.

DA was 730' btw.

 

Well, no doubt there is a bunch left in her. Curious how far behind you the TA will be. Edelbrock 2215 cam but aluminum 5.3. Tempted to port the other 853 that is for the 4.8, but that would require more waiting. Heavier car. Just lots less than you with a auto.

 

Way to go Matt that's awesome. I bet there is a steep learning curve even for cutting lights, I am so used to racing an automatic I can't imagine lol.

I used to race an R6 after I sold my 82, it felt like one of those "You can only have 2 out of the 3" type situations:

-Leave hard
-Cut a good light
-Not wheelie/spin

I never did get good at it . How much fun is shifting?

 

i can't even start to tell you how steep this learning curve is...even i had no idea when i did it (i acknowledged my lack of knowledge though) but man i think it's going to be worth it. i'm super pleased with this so far. and i'm a solid 15mph faster than my little bro's stock 5.3 swap and that gives us a good base as to what his will do when he does the t56 swap and other stuff we plan to do to it. if we can get his to do 110 i think he'd be tickled pink.

 

when I had alot of power with my 6 speed I left in second gear off the line

those six speeds are fun

i wish i had a clean video of some driving. the one i had my wife record was a joke of a pass (the first pass), and the one i tried to get of me inside was two missed gears, so i'll figure out how to make some more video and get more seat time before i start throwing videos up. i don't feel like being embarrassed all over the internet with some crappy driving. gonna start messing with power shifting soon.

 

You'll be Pro on time. Eventually you do everything without thinking about it. Hell, I'm trying to get used to a auto. I still try to use a invisible clutch...

 

Try switching back and forth between a 3-pedal and auto car in the same day sometime. That'll keep the brain on its toes.

 

five7, so you power shift your 6speed car? i'm finding the more i talk to these guys with fast cars, they're just shifting really fast, rather than doing no-lift-shifts. what are your thoughts?

 

I never even thought of power shifting mine. I have to grandma shift with the 10 bolt still out back...

 

Keep in mind also, with the Tick adjustabkle master you cvan fine tune your lights a good bit.. When I first installed mine I had so much more clutch my lights were wayyy off.. Lowered pedal for faster release, after 3 adjustments got right back were it was. Just reminding you of a tool you have.

 

I half lift so RPM stays up by doesn't ride the rev limiter between shifts. Tales a bit to get your lift right, but that's what I like. Now the 1-2 shift on the streets I usually stay WOT when shifting. But I don't street race anymore and the t56 will be rarely seeing the track once it is in the 91.

The half lift I do is hard to be repetitive at first but eventually it becomes second nature.

well, it's going to take a bit of playing with for sure.

 

Repitition will get you there in no time. If I wasn't street racing all the time back when, I never would have been so good at the track. Never missed a gear at the track and it was because of constant gear banging in the weekends.

 

Everything I have ever raced acted differently at the track. My sportbikes never spun on the street but would at the track. My 82 had a fuel delivery issue that would only happen at the track, would surge like crazy! So on and so forth, I think you truly only find the gremlins in your setup on race night .

 

Lol, well my 89 never did, doubt I'll be so lucky with the rustang.

 

Found a good video of how i shift when i was running on the streets. Pretty much reminds me of an automatic. Poor 4.6 liter 2 valve never stood a chance. I think je was on motor that run, but never the less, it was a built stroker 5 liter car with a auto. Gave him the move.

I pretty much granny shifted. Considered just letting it sit on the rev limiter, but never got comfortable trying it. If the tranny had been face plated, that would have been a different matter.

 

i'm with ya tim...just can't make myself do it. even though the t56 i'm using has some updated/upgraded parts, it's still basically a gm unit, lol.

 

Nothing to be scared about I think. These are punk T5s. I broke 2nd in mine and come to find they replaced the slider and not the gear it mated to. The mismatch caused it. Otherwise the years of beating with the 6.0 and nitrous never caused anything. Mine was a "750" hp rebuild.

 

all of the setups i have had over the years are different. some are better just pulling the next gear with the pedal to the wood, and some like a little breathing room. it's always tough to allow yourself to keep it flat footed, goes against better judgement and the money you have invested.

my 48 english ford anglia would wheel stand through 2nd if you could catch the gear fast enough. that was a scary car...haha.

Yes, that took some getting used to. And I only went to 5500 on the 2-step. Hardly sounded like a 2-step.
