Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
OK, story is car ran Pinks All Out at Englishtown in 2008. Put the car in the air to change the trans. Life gets in the way. Fast forward to last night.
Car is 406 with old AFR 210's not-ported, mini-ram and solid roller cam 248/248. Strange 12-bolt rear with 4.56's and all the usual bolt on suspension parts. Also ran it with a 7004r and 3800 stall Vigilante converter.
Last time out in 2008 the car ran a best of 11.68 @ 117.xx with a 1.56 60' time with a race weight of 3680. Car still had AC and cruise control at that time.
While the car was in the air, changed to a TH350 with ATI 8" converter (4500 stall), removed AC and all serp brackets, went to a electric water pump and manual steering. Also changed whole rear suspension from poly bushings to spherical rod ends. Added Spohn Drag bar. relocated battery to trunk for better weight distribution. Ditched Mufflex 4" system to go with true dual 3" which dump before the axle with Borla XR-1 mufflers.
Last night, the car ran a best of 11.16 @ 121.4 with a 1.55 60' time at a weight of 3590 (yeah time to remove some). Very pleased with the change.
Glad to be back. Here is a pic from last night.

Re: Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
It's a full body car (no fiberglass) so a hood will drop some. Also looking hard at racecrafts's k member and coil over kit along with strange drag brakes. Already have kirkey seats for it but haven't put them in yet. Beyond that I need to gut under dash. Would love to get down to a race weight of 3400.
200 lb drop would be 2 tenths and would put the car in the 10's

Ben, here are some shots of the back hatch area. I have the battery in a Moroso box and also a A/D converter for the speedo and a Kenne Bell Boost a Pump to give a little more voltage to the fuel pump at WOT.
Then where the spare tires used to go we mounted the shutoff switch and mounted a 150 amp circuit breaker for the alternator line. I have a 140 amp one from a mid 90's police car so that provides line protection for it in case something should short.
Re: Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
There are options out there for smaller/lighter rechargable batteries if you are only cranking a few times each race. You can swap it out later for road use.
Check over on silver bullet there are several threads about them there.
Re: Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
I am using a large battery for a few reasons. I am planning on changing to much higher compression in a season or two 14:1+ and also I currently run an Accel DFI 6 system which cannot voltage compensate. So if the battery is a little low when cranking, it is very possible it will not start. Changing to a Holley EFI will change this as well in a season or two.
But for now, the car cranks easily with the bigger battery and puts weight where I need it.
Re: Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
My 60ft n/a was 1.67 I think.
With a 125 shot, my best was 1.40.
3.75 gears, 275 drag radial,th350 w/3500 stall
400sbc, 58mm Throttle body, LT1 intake, 9-1 compression, AFR 195 eliminator's,280xfi flat tappet, completely stock shortblock, 1 7/8 Ed Quay long tubes to single 4" over the axle, Zex dry nitrous,
3550lbs with me in it
Re: Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
I am foot braking as well. I bring the idle up to around 2000 to get out of the choppy idle and the stab it on green
Currently running 18psi in the slicks, -2 angle on the torque arm, lca brackets in the lowest hole and mid setting on the qa1 rear shocks. Front struts are 90/10 lake woods. Rear suspension is all spohn chromoly with spherical rod end and a drag bar preloaded
Doesn't feel like it's spinning. I will hopefully get a video of the launch on Sunday
Re: Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
Nice improvements!
Get the Moroso trick springs up front and PA Racing K member. I run -3 degrees on the adjustable TA. Remove as much weight from the front as you can and you will 60 a lot harder.
The little battery that was mentioned will work on higher comp. engines too. Lots of guys running those with BBC.
Re: Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
Thanks for the input. The k-member is definately in the cards for this winter. I am considering doing the coil over and a-arms as well.
The battery is in the back now but it is a large battery because the DFI6 does not voltage compensate. Once I go to the Holley EFI this winter, a smaller battery seems like a good idea.
If all goes as planned, I should be able to take 150ish off the nose this winter.
Re: Finally made it back to the track...and man did it run
Should be a wheelie machine then!
I pulled the wheels with a 1.59 60ft last time out and a really nice wheelie with a 1.44 60ft. I know it isn't efficient to do so, but thats when you know you are getting max traction and can set the car up and start launching efficiently later.
