Tips on 60' times
Tips on 60' times
Last time I went to the track I had mostly 2.3 60' times with one or two 2.2's. The 2.2's came with holding the brake and bringing the rpm's up to about 1000-1200 and releasing the brakes and pretty much flooring it. This was on crappy Goodyear RSA's. I know this isn't quite the best technique as was seen by my times. Now I have new tires with about 1000 miles on them they are Bridgestone RE730's. What should I do to help my times when I go this Saturday 3/30.

You're going to need more torque to lower your 60 foot times. Going to a deeper gear will help. Something around 3.73. A higher stall converter will also lower your 60 foot times.
83procamaro,
Those tires would help out a lot, also nice car.
Stephen 87 IROC,
I agree that getting rid of my 2.73 gears for some 3.42's would help, how much would this effect 60' and 1/4 mile times?

I've cut a 1.82 60 ft with 3.27's and street tires on a stock suspension before. You have to practice the launch. You won't get it righ the first 15 times. The more passes you make at the track the better you will get.
I foot-braked the car to 1000 rpm, then stabbed it on the last yellow, not too much, not too little, but just right. When you do it right, you won't bog, or spin the tires.
Practice makes perfect.

I'm cutting 2.25 60 fts with 3.27's and street tires, with an upgraded rear suspension. Mind if I borrow your feet, 89gta383?
I run Goodyear GTII's on the rear... and I launched pretty much the same way you do Casey. Next time I go to the track I'm definately practicing my launch more than anything. I can't afford a spare set of rims and slicks yet.

When I was running a SBC 383 I was still using 3.27 gears. A TH350 with a 3800 stall converter and was running 1.72 60 foot times on a 26" tall slick. The 383 was also running high 11's at 117 mph so it had the HP and torque to achieve those numbers.

I was pulling 2.00's all day long with my '85. If the d@mn thing had more power I could have gotten even better. I brought rpm's up to around 1200 and hit it on the 3rd yellow. That was with bridgestone tires and no burnout.

Last year I was running pretty much 1.60s, some 1.80s.. Its the last 1/8 that was killing me.. Hopefully the supercharger will fix that this year.
