Winter driving
Winter driving
Okay, so I might be a little nuts for thinking this, but how bad an idea is it to have a thirdgen F-body for my only car? Being from Montana, this means that I'll be driving it in pretty much every form of weather known to man- but my chief concern is winter driving. I figured I'd ask on this board, since most of you are from the same region as I. Reason I'm asking is that I'm forced to sell my 2001 Ram for school (so I don't go broke) and have always wanted a thirdgen Firebird. However, if I do get said car, it would be the only vehicle I'd have. How bad an idea is this, and what would any of you recommend for using a Firebird as a year-round driver?
Thanks!

There are people who do it from what I know. I will be driving mine this winter but I REALLY don't want to. I just haven't found a good winter beater yet.

well i drive mine year round, but i am in the PNW, so no snow here, only lots and lots and lots of rain.
Driving in the snow is fun in an F-body. And you get to scare the hell out of everyone too!
If you get a really nice one then maybe you'd want to stay away from snow to keep the car nice (salt on roads).

So pretty much like I drive now? (girlfriend hates when I purposely make the pickup fishtail- she doesn't believe that I'm still in control)
But so far as getting around, it's really not too bad, then? I'm not too worried about rust from the de-icer... I normally just hit the carwash after the roads clear up and it pretty much all gets washed off. Pending the sale of my truck, I most likely will be getting an f-body.
Thanks!

yeah, the only difference is if you touch anything white at all, you're sliding. Like the unplowed line down the middle of the road or even if its just light snow that doesn't even cover the ground. At least thats what happens in my car, but your tires are probably going to have more tread... in my case I have little to none.

If you get a set of snow tires for winter, your golden. I had a set for my bird and the only thing that stopped the car was when the snow was too deep to push. My pickup wouldnt even leave the driveway, so I drove the formula to work.. makes sense dont it???
