Re: Need chip burning help

what help do you need, this is a $42 definition, what programer do you have? this is a uv erase eprom you will me better off getting a flash eprom if you plan on doing much tuning like the ostrich.

Re: Need chip burning help

Hi, i have no hardware or software. a friend burned a 28 pin amtel chip, but it wont fit in my 24 pin slot.
A friend has a burner 2 i can borrow, with software.
Do i stay with the 24 pin chip or upgrade to the 28 pin chip, and how will i make the slot bigger, with an adaptor? Does this require de-solder/solder the current chip holder??? I am new to all this, but i have been reading the blogs to understand what i have to do...thanks.

ps. we are currently just trying to shut off the egr, as i have a flat spot between 20 and 30 mph, otherwise the truck starts and runs great, i had to change out my heads due to a cracked head and went with a set of 1987 heads that dont support the egr valve. the old heads were the original 1988 heads..
thanks..
joe

Re: Need chip burning help

If you can only use a burn2 you will have to go with a flash eprom and use tunerpro.

Re: Need chip burning help

Thanks for the reply, so rather than shipping my ecm to them for a resolder, i can just use the adapter?
Question: 1. will the adapter work as well as a solder job in terms of being reliable? (plug in vs. solder)
2. will i get better tune-ability by just going to a full 28 pin unit? (ship to moates, they solder, ship back)?

Re: Need chip burning help

you can solder it in, If you are planning on doing much tuning than maybe buy a emulator would be best or buy another ecm and install a zif adapter with a flash eprom. I don't trust zif's for a longterm use dip's are fine.

Re: Need chip burning help

Hi, tuned, I do have a spare ecm from a junk yard and i think its a 1227747, will that one work or should i just stay with the original one that came in the truck?
Just to be clear, your saying it would be best to solder in a 28 pin socket and upgrade the old 24 pin chip to a 28 pin?
Where can i get a 28 pin adapter? Radio Shack, or online???
Would like to get this done asap, dont like driving the truck with it running lean, as it pops thru the tbi on ocassion.
(i already have a 28 pin chip my friend burned for me, old amtel chip)

thanks,
joe

Re: Need chip burning help

A 747 is a 747 but you might want to check the bcc before you run the eprom. If you are wanting to reprogram the old 2732 eprom's you will need to uv erase and get a different programer. to go to a 28 pin you will need an solder in a holder for the flash chip. Depending on what chip your friend used and if the .bin is in the correct offset you might be able to clip the legs.

Re: Need chip burning help

The 747 never used a 28 pin eprom. I would also make sure the 747 you are using has the correct calpak since these were used in 4.3, 5.0, 5.7 and 7.4L

Re: Need chip burning help

I can't remember what the calpak number is for a 5.7l in a 747 but you can reference the origin the ecm off the bcc (broad cast code ) code on the eprom and the calpak should correspond.
