Yeah my car is clean and is in good shape but I've had it for three years , I've put in about $5,000 CDN into it , and its not even close to what I want it. It makes me so pissed off when I look at it sometimes. It leaks like I have the T-tops off, it isn't loud at all , it isnt that powerful , it ****n creaks like crazy inside , and now the god damn rear end is wienning like a bitch , and it sucks too much gas. I'm not going to sell it , I'm not going to give up on it , and I certainly will never drive a ****n rice rocket I just have a question for you guys , when I'm driving the road noise in my car is so loud , I want to make it quieter. What is the stuff that is suppost to be under the carpet to help this ?? And were can I get it or something that will do the same thing. I was thinking maybe a home improvement store. Also do anyone know about rear ends. I dont know but I'm going to have to do something about it. I was either thinking about just swapping in a used one from an Iroc or just get mine rebuilt.Which do you think it would be better??? Right now I got a non posi with 2.73 gears and oh yeah drums , stupid drums.

I would say if you can get a Posi from an IROC cheaper then a rebuilt then do it.. I'm not sure but if the rear is noisy you may be able to just change the gear oil and make sure the ring and pinion gears are with in spec. New wheather stipping should take care of the leaks, but your not the only one with leaky tops common problem with third gen's. Dude you shouldn't get mad looking at your car, its a sweet car. And looking on the bright side of having to spend money on it, I see cars for sale for like ~10 Grand with descriptions of over 20 grand invested... thats gotta suck. You might want to keep an eye out for a cheap 700R4 the extra gear could help the milage a bit. Or maybe find someone willing to trade tranny's? I don't know just a thought. So yeah don't keep us in the dark we're here for ya man.

Jess

From the pics I've seen, its a beautiful car! If I ever get another thirdgen, I'm gonna do the dark blue w/ silver gfx too. That looks sharp! Don't get discouraged, we all have things we want to improve about our cars. Thats what makes us "enthusiasts" and not average car owners who don't know a cam shaft from an elevator shaft. Take it easy man.

Andy... you need to come out and spend some more time with us idiots down here

I know we can get it louder... mainly its your exhaust manifolds... they're restrictive sumbitches and I think ifn i put headers on mine soon I can give ya the ones I have (L69 style ok so they're not pretty and they look like ****... ) ... might not be a helluva lot louder but it'll be an improvement from what you have... failing that, we can all look around at a pull a part for something

Creaks are probably cause from not having an interior and that dynamat junk (its that sounddeadening junk hehe)

The sucking too much gas is either going to take a lot of tuning, or fairly soon a new carb ($200 for a 600 edelbrock performer out here... )

my entire car whines when its running, some of its the transmission being broken in though hehe... an upgrade for the rear can be done (dammit move down here, be easier to do stuff n stuff hehe) ... It'd be cheaper to get a used one from an IROC, safer if you get yours rebuilt with a posi-carrier and new gears though... but spendy ($800 if you have a shop do it, considering they're getting the parts for it as well)...

I wouldn't mind chipping in a little to the "Save Andy's Z" fund or somethin, hehe... and whenever I get the chance to go to a pull a part, I'll keep an eye out for something you could use, get a price on it, and run it by ya or somethin

Think about it this way though buddyboy... yours runs, looks absolutely beautiful, has a roof thats worth a **** (you think t-tops leaking is bad, try having an antenna adapter drilled into the back that doesn't have a seal... thats harder to fix than new weatherstripping or seals hehe)... and hey... you have a complete front end that I would kill for

If you've got the time, check your carburetor gasket... that may be one of your problems there... granted that transmission doesn't help much but you should still be getting something better than currently...

Ooo Ooo you also have gauges that work and a dash that looks purty!!! and tail pipes that kick *** ... and and and... stuuuuuuuff!!

so there

Ok, Andy, I know just how you feel man, err, I know what your going thru. Ill break it down to why I decided to get the Trans Am.

Gas Mileage - Driving 50+ miles daily with that carbed motor sucked bad, my wallet was always skinny. It was worse when I had the TH350, I would keep an eye out for a 700R4. Look for 88 and up, they are weak below 88. If you want more perfomance outta the car, find something with 3.23s (good all around gear) and youll have the low end grunt you want, and power up high too, with the 700R4, and 3.23s in the 82' I was only turning about 1600 RPMs or so at 55-60.

Road Noise - Dynamat, Dynamat, DYNAMAT! The Trans Am is loaded with the stuff, and I can tell you it really helps, comparing the 2 cars, the 82 is loud, you can hear every little creak, and rattle. While the T/A is quiet. It is not the cheapest stuff you can but I know it will help ALOT.

Other - Headers would make your car louder, and you would get some more power. But, I think the main problem is your mufflers, If you like the flowmaster sound, get some 40 or 50 series, those are loud, and sound great. I wanna kinda stand out from the crowd, so Im going to go with SLP exhaust stuff. But, they arent cheap.

Drums arent to bad, the majority of your braking is done by the front brakes anyways, like over 70% if I remember correctly.

Well man, I hope that helps! Dont sell the car, it might seem like a money pit now, but just wait till you get it done!!

I have the stuff you need and I want to sell it. I bought it for my car but never installed it because I went to the big block.

Brand new (in the box) Flowmaster mandrel bent 3" exhaust system with 2-chamber muffler and dual 3" polished tips. In addition I have brand new Hooker Supercomp headers that have been modified with no AIR tubes and a 3" high flow Y-pipe. I'll have to look at my receipts to figure out how much I want for those parts.

My friend also has a disk brake Borg-Warner 9-bolt from an 89 IROC with only 50K miles and the brakes are still on it. The car was owned by a retired couple and only had 35K miles on it when my friend picked it up. He wants $600 for for the rearend including the brakes. We installed a 12-bolt rear in his car with 1-LE brakes. Just for comparison purposes that cost $2300. You can have the driveline too if you need it.
