My Alternator broke, I had it running all good and stuff. Then it just the car just died. So I tried Jumping it, but as I tried, I watched the alt die. Frick, its like I can never win. So now I gotta get a new one.

Bummer, dude. See if you can get the next one with a warranty so when it breaks again you can get it replaced for cheaper. Tell us how hard it is to change it out, too.

Before I upgraded from V-belts to a single serpentine on my '87, I went through a whole bunch of alternators with a "lifetime" warranty from Napa. It was a hassle, but at least they were free. Fortunately, on your '91 it only takes about ten minutes to swap it. It seems stock replacement alternators and starters for our cars aren't very high quality.

Yup, it aint that hard to swap out on my car, unless your left arm got fu(ked up in a motorcycle accident last year, and it is stilll healing

I have a lifetime warrenty on mine, but I have to send it away. So I have to wait.

You have to send it somewhere to get a replacement?

Let me know if you need help ... my son and I are available.

BTW -- you missed some excellent Bob's Pizza a while ago!

I used to burn though alternators very quickly. "Rebuilt Starters & Alternators" (or something like that) on Dillingham built me a nice quality one that lasted for a year (exactly) before my car finally ate it (with all my car's electrical issues, not the rebuilders fault). It has a 1 year warranty so I took it in and the same guy rebuilt it without even asking when I bought it. (Took a couple of hours.)

Unfortunately, I accidentally didn't tighten the hot on the rear housing enough a few weeks later (never hand-tighten electrical connections...) and smoked it. A different guy said something around $55 to rebuilt it, so I just went to Checker for their lifetime warranty ones for about $45. Went through 3 or 4 of those, I even smoked one and it had a rattle in it since the day I got it, and that still lasted like 8 months... so they aren't that bad.

With my v-belts, changing the alternator is a 30 second job. S-belts would **** me off since I pull the alternator at least once a month (for bench testing).

Also, when you take them for testing, make sure you have them test it at least twice with the same results (have 'em show you or print it out). (If it tests "Bad" on the first try, ya' don't need to retest of course.) I've had some that would test "okay" over and over on different machines and days, but if you ever tested it twice back-to-back it would fail (third and fourth times also). If you really want to be sure about it, make 'em test it twice when you buy it.

If you have to pay too much for S&H, it might be easier to just get one locally so you can take it in if there is ever any trouble. My account (at CSK) still gets a decent discount for alternators, so let me know.

Later,
Scott

Aight, I got the alternator in, but thats not the only problem. It will start now, if it is jumped, but if I turn the car off, I can't turn it back on. I'm getting sick n tired of all these problems. Plus it does not help, that i'm not able to do everything I used to be able to do.
Ahh, I feel a very, little, small bit better, now that I got to vent a little. But I still feel like this
I guess me and my dad will try and work on it tommorrow.
It way too dark now.

I will update it with new stuff as it comes.

I am so freaking sick of this car. I think i'm going to get rid of it, and let someone else deal with all of the problems.

I have just had it.

If you get rid of it, keep that monte and you can still cruise with us until you get a new f-body! Gotta love the monte's!

Keep us updated with it. I've been through every single electrical problem since I bought my first car and even I managed to get through it. (Though, my bird has been actin' up again since friday....) The only problem that hasn't happened yet is a fire.... (Knock on wood.)

Don't give up yet!

Here is a pics of the seats I installed into the Monte already. They are 2002 Monte SS seats, plus I did the shifter. I will get a pic of them tomorrow, and post it.

They look sweet, and they feel even better.

Looks great! Big improvement. Now you just need to find that in a bench form!

Double check your connections and get some voltage readings, but if it's dyin' without outside help it sure does sound like your alt. How's your battery doin'? I've gotten home on just my battery more times than I'd have liked to.

The batt is brand new. So is the alt, well rebuit.
I think i'm going to bring it in to this guy in Wahiawa. I have my dad tow me into his shop. I will give him a call tomorrow and find out how much he will charge, I really think it is an electrical problem. I know he has got pretty good prices too, so I'll let ya'll know.

Damn rain keeps preventing me from getting that interrior shot of the Monte, hopefully tomorrow.

I got them from this guy online, can't remember the site right now, but I got front seats, plus the rear seats, plus the console shipped here in a crate for $1013. The seats only had 212 miles on them. I got a really good deal on them.
