Ford Lightning?

My friend wants to sell me his truck ( a 2000 Ford F-150 Lightning ) for $18,000. It has 59,778 miles on it. A KN Air filter and Cold Air Intake. Everything else is stock. Is it worth it? Is it a fast truck? I can buy a brand new 2002 F-150 for about $500 more.

They are fast trucks. They new lightnings are alot faster than the 2000's but they are still fast. It should be though it is supercharged. They are faster than an LT1 Z28/TA but not as fast as an LS1 Z28/TA. If chevy would hurry up and get their supercharged pickup out it would be nice. Anyways, if you are looking at getting a truck and having some speed, I would say get it.

You can't just something like that and not give a reason why you said it. I think they are pretty sweet trucks. Please refrain from making stupid comments if you can't back them up.

The 2000 F-150 Lightning is a 5.4L supercharged 340hp truck. It has meaty 295/45ZR18 tires on it and a sports suspension, as well as aggressive looking ground effects. It is a FAR better performance vehicle then the run of the mill F150 and lists in the low 30 grand range brand new. The newest incarnation cranks out an additional 40hp. Handling wise it can't keep up with any of today's sportscars, but it's got oodles of horsepower and fat tires for good acceleration. This really is your only option at this time when it comes to sports trucks. The Dakota RT just doesn't stack up, and GM still has their thumbs stuck up their... Dodge is working on a V10 performance Ram, but from what I've read of the truck so far, it's performance seems way low for the V10.

Looks like you have just become the newest "board idiot." Since you don't own the car, and you apparently can't drive the car, please shut up. You sound just like any other ***** keyboard jockey and have the kind of attitude that gives domestic guys a bad name. You act like you're 14. Again, you have no reason why Lightnings are "junk" except tht you apparently don't like Ford. By the way, any time you claim your car will beat ANY _____ remember there is always someone faster. All that might be to much for your brain to comprehend though. This is a tech site. If you have an opinion, back it up.

For $18k it's a hell of a deal. Lightnings are cool trucks and with a little more boost become even more fun. I believe they are solid mid-13-14 second vehicles, although Hot Rod tested one aginst a C5 vette, and it ran almost the same times the vette. The general feeling was that it was a ringer though.

That is interesting, we built up recently for a customer, his lightning and his mustang coupe which he tows with his lightning. He used it to tow his coupe to WFC (world ford challenge) in st. louis. he raced the car to only a 11.10 (306 on 150 shot) and the truck went 12.10 and is the fastest street lightning in the country now. if he would have entered it in the race lightning class he would have been the 3rd fastest! I know camaro's can go 12.10's easy (with nitrous) but not at 4820 pounds!

Im a chevy guy all the way but I got alot of respect for the Lightning. Alot of people dont relize that although its going a little slower than a sports car, it weighs 1000 - 1500lbs more and it has the aero dynamics of a truck not a car, big difference. My daily driver is a 96 chevy pickup, short box Z71 (4x4) with a 305 vortec engine, you would be suprised what it would keep up with. It will hang with most mustangs and camaros off the light up to about 30 mph, but like I said when you consider the weight and wind resistance thats not all that bad.

A while back Hot Rod had an article where they took some big old boat of a car to the track and each run down the track they would remove more of the car to reduce weight until they got it down to pretty much frame, engine, and a seat. It was unbelivable how much faster it got. I thing it would be interesting to see them do that with a truck, I bet it would get into 12s easy.

I have always been a chevy guy. I did own a 5.0 in 88 brand new, and an old 72 4x4. I have had a lot of chevys and it's all about what you are farmiliar with. That being said, a good friend of mine has an older lightning with a powerdyne s/c and it runs 12.5's all day long. I think he as a borla exhaust too. If i were you, and I really wanted a ford Lightning, I would either buy a new one, and for about 2500 more put a supercharger on it. Or get an older gen 1 with low miles and supercharge it. My friend paid 12G for his 94 with 25,000 on it 4 years ago and just put the powerdyne on.

This has nothing to do with thirdgens and power adders.
