Turbos for 5.0 litre at 500+hp?
Hey guys,
I am planning on building up an 5 litre engine.
I want to have at least 500 horsepower. What would be a good pair of turbos or turbo?
Which is better, twin turbos or a single turbo?
thank you:hail: :hail: :hail:

5.0L as in 305 or 5.0L as in a 302 overbored .020. A 305 would have a hell of a time trying squeeze out 500hp. But a 302 based engine would have no problem with boost in attaining that number.

Don't listen to any of them that northstar engine is the cat's meow. One 72 or two 49's will be enough to make your pubic hair go straight......

There is a place here in the phoenix area that uses the Northstar engine twin turbocharged, for sandrails. I've seen some of them making over 800hp! In a 1800lb sandrail!

Garrett
I found the turbos on some sites but none selling them. At the Garrett site they don't show much of anything
Is there a good place to look for Garrett turbos?
thanks:hail: :hail: :hail:

another question
does this turbo have an internal wastegate?
If not what would be a good wastegate to get?
Do you know of any eletronically controlled wastegates?
thanks

Try Precision Turbo. I think they'd have 49's. If I'm remembering correctly the GT series turbo is the new line that Garrett is introducing. They're redesigned to have much faster spool up, a 70 would feel like a 60 and things of that nature.

If you have the money go with a ballbearing centersection turbo. It'll help you on the spool. If not you can call precision like Greasemonkey said. Also check in with Turbonetics www.turbonetics.com

hey PETE with those 36# injectors do you have any problems on the street as far as MPG loss or failure to control the injector at low pulse widths? i heard the bigger the injector... the harder to keep a good spray pattern (cause of LOW PSI) with a small pulse width.

With any injector once you go below it's intended duty cycle(or likewise above it) the spray pattern becomes eratic. My pulse width at idle is around 1.2-1.4 ms, 1/4 throttle puts it a almost 4ms. I pull down around 22mpg on the highway(12-13 city-leadfoot). MY fuel pressure is set at 45 so it's within the target range of the injector. My 50's are here just waiting for the chip and warmer weather(snow tomorrow, again!)
I don't have enough injector to run the turbo past 18psi with the injectors in there now(ran them at over 100% duty cycle for the 12.7 run at 60psi). Once the 50's go in and it's tuned I will adjust the wastegate and add some Xylene for 25psi(should net me mid 11's, gotta get some stickys first though). Car is too much fun while in boost(sounds like an 800hp sewing machine)

got it
I got a northstar engine, with transmission.
I got the combo for 300. The engine runs but may need a new head gasket. So far my plans are to tear the engine down and take alot of pictures.

update
Hey guys,
Just thought you woul be interested in knowing. I got a dana 44 corvette rearend for my car. I won't be putting it in until I got the transmission I want to get for it (viper t56).
What do you guys think?
I'll try to get a camera to post some pics when the work begins.
There probably won't be a turbo charged northstar in ther for at least 1 year. I probably will stick the junkyard northstar in there for a while. It does run and can use it for mock up purposes.
thanks for your help.
I am still looking around but have not found listings doe thse turbos anywhere
thanks guys:hail: :hail: :hail:
