I wans't sure exactly where to post this, but I figured more people would know here. I know it's a bit ***** but I'm looking for a loud *** blow-off valve that's not all that expensive. Can you guys recommend any good sounding ones? I'll be using it for lower boost levels (under 10psi). How do the stock DSM ones sound? I know alot of people use them and they're not too expensive.

yea, tial makes one, turbo xs rofl is kind of cheap...but they are both open atmosphere...don't be afraid to use a part imports use...only a blow off valve, i sold my hks super sequential bov today...sounded like a whistle....was a pull type bov, not a push type relief valve so mine didnt leak....

 

I can understand looking for a stereo or even an exhaust that sounds "cool" but I think its kinda corny deciding which turbo, blower, or blow-off to buy by "because it sounds cooler". sorry not trying to frag you but maybe its just me.

 

the hks pull type is more efficient and an open atmosphere bov allows air to travel out faster making it easier for the compressor to build up boost again, if you have a manual car then this is worth it, if not you want to hold boost when you shift and one is not necessary

my brother has a hks super sequential bov on his ford thunderbird turbo coupe... its sound great!

 

I am using a TurboXS RFL blow off valve with the "trumpet". Its the loudest one I have ever heard and I love it. I am using on my VW Corrado running at about 15psi. TurboXS makes a few different types as well for lower boost applications.

 

OK, I think you are spouting , but OK. Maybe you should go pull a plug wire so your car will sound like it has a cam. Save the useless insults for another place..

 

I guess I'm just going to have to dumb this one down for you chief. Does pulling a plug help your car? No. Does buying a nice exhaust? yes. Does buying a BOV help your turbo? Yes. Do people like nice sounding exhuast or awful sounding exhaust? Do people post .mp3's and .wav's of their exhaust? What's the difference between this and a BOV. Learn how to reason and write meaningful analogies and get back to us Bubba. So if getting a BOV for sound is **** then everyone that chose their hoods, interior, steering wheels, rims, stereo system, and stuff like that for looks and sound are all **** too right? Some people like to have nice sounding and looking cars. Don't you have anything better to do than troll?

Alright chief, but how about choosing a quality BOV instead of just looking for one that sounds good? You have very little chance of hurting you motor with an exhaust problem, can you say the same about a BOV? Oh and I have never seen an MP3 of a BOV...

 

Well, since BOV's have nothing to do with the motor then I'd say yeah, you could say the same thing. BOV's help your turbo last longer by blowing off exess pressure when the throttle plate closes. It's not even necessary, just a good idea. And I didn't say I was looking for sound alone. I knew very well which ones functioned best or which was pull-type or push-type. The only piece of info you don't get from company descriptions are personal opiions on how hey sound. Unless they put up an MP3 or WAV, which a few companies have done.

 

I never had a turbo motor, but I was under the inpression that a failure could cause some sort of over boast condition. That would be a bad thing if I am correct, if I am wrong, I apologize.

Sorry to give you a hard time, I just have a pet peeve about getting things cause they look and sound "cool", rather then by quality or perfomance. Sometimes they end up doing more harm then good.

BTW, doesn't someone make a gadget that sounds like a BOV? Seems to me there was a non-turbo car running around here with some sort of vacuum operated can that made the whoosh sound... What will they think of next...

I've got a pair of HKS SSQV BOV's on my setup and I'm very happy with them, as are a couple of other people I've helped to build their systems. The Turbo XS RFL is a pretty good sounding BOV if you like it loud, and it's about 1/2 the cost of the SSQV, but I haven't used it myself. I've seen/heard them on imports though, and they are loud, especially for relaitively low boost pressure and discharge volume.

I don't see what the disagreement is about, looks and sound qualities are not mutually exclusive of performance. It's not like we're talking about a bi-plane wing or fart pipe exhaust stuff on the back of a stock 2.0L fwd. Just because something looks or sounds cool doesn't mean it doesn't work well. I feel my engine performs pretty well, but I put a high-emphasis on aesthetics, and I actually selected the SSQV based on looks, sound, as well as it's performance.

a blow off valve does the same thing for the compressor that the wastegate does for your turbine, without either one yout turbo won't last to long, wastgate opens when you build a certain amount of boost and all the air going out goes out before turning the turbine wheel which would make you build more boost, well a blow off valve or compressor bypass valve lets the air out between your throttle plates and compressor so when your let off the gas and get back on your compressor can spin and build boost back up....

 

If you're looking for the most performance out of this a BOV isn't even the way to go. on a MAF car the motor will not sense the sudden loss of pressure and will still be injecting fuel for air that never made it to the motor, thanks to the BOV.
A Recirculation kit is something you should look into, alas they don't make a cool noise when they open, you'll need to get an electronic one for that.

 

This isn't for a MAF car, otherwise you would probably be right.

 

Ah, well MAP cars ar quite different, they'll sense the pressure drop. About the DSM BOV i'd definitly not reccomentd it if you have plans for more then 15 PSI, they need to be cruched to hold pressure past that and thats never a certain science, you may get venting problems as well since its pretty small.

 

Right again! But I will be using low boost under 10psi so I'll be fine.
