Turbos for Non-Thirdgens
I know this website is dedicated to the thirdgen cars but for those of us who also have the little 4 cylinder jobs for tooling around town and daily driving, can anyone recommend something for the lowly four cylinder. I am interested in something like this:

Thanks,

hm... why don't you turbo the hell out of your thirdgen, built the same way it will always smoke any smaller displacement motor... but if your looking to build a mildly turbo'd 4 banger i'd recommend you contact someone like greddy, they do alot of civic and import bs....

I have an ATI unit in the works for the Z28, but for the little 4 banger I would rather just go with a worked out kit. It really is more for the shock factor. Everyone expects a Z28 to be fast, but no one expects an economy car to hang with or beat a Z28/Trans Am/Firebird.
I will look at the Greddy units that you mentioned.
Does anyone else know of any other aftermarket kits for the the little 4 cylinders. Heck for those of you with the older thirdgens that came with a 4 cylinder, this may be a great option for you.

I have a 94 Corolla for my daily driving. Its been a great car. Always started the first time out and has never required more than normal maitenence and still gets at least 28mpg around town.
I was just thinking that since the Z28 has been (and will always) get the most attention from the performance upgrades side of things that I would show a little love to the daily driver and try to give it a little more umph in the horsepower area.
Anyone know of any turbo kits for the Toyota engines?

its not that simple... you need to know about the ecm... will the map support more than 1bar of pressure? now you need a new fuel system and exhaust.... know what your doing before you just try to 'bolt up' a turbo

dan,
I am aware that there is more to putting a turbo on that just bolting it up. Yet with as large as the import scene is there must still be someone who has put and entire kit together to include the turbo, exhaust, reprogrammed ecm, fuel kit, etc. If people like LSI Motorsports and Lingenfelter can put a complete kit together for a V8, then surely some has done the same for 4 cylinders. I am just looking to see if anyone has seen a kit like this before.

instead of just slapping on a turbo you might just want to do some bolt-ons like a header, hi-flow cat, cat back, intake, cold air, cam(s), injectors, and 'puter. All that should cost less than a turbo kit and will help just as much toegther as a turbo kit and you don't have the decreased engine life associated with adding boost to a motor intended to be entirely N/A

I have looked at going the bolt on route as an option but I also wanted to look at the turbo route as well. I just want to make sure that I am getting the most bang for my buck. I will go with whatever option gives me the best return on my investment so that is why I am asking about turbo kit availability and options.
I figured this board would get me the most realistic answers unlike some of the information I have seen on some of the ***** boards. Man most of those folks really dont seem to have a clue.

I would think that unless you went with a jy turbo then bolt ons would cost less. BTW a lot of imports ppl know dick and that is why their rep isn't very good.
