Is my turbo header too restrictive?

Well I came down with a bad case of boostitis and fabbed up some turbo headers out of my old slp's. My question is, does the sharp bend in the tubing give me any negative effect?

BTW, excuse the crummy welds, I'm very new to welding and custom manufacturing

It may be a little restrictive. You can buy nice mandrel U-bends from Burns Stainless. They may be your best bet, I'd cut that out, and start over.

That's a little restrictive, but shouldn't be *that* bad.. Good work!

Cheers,

Oh my lord, what the hell is that monstrosity??

Umm, to answer your question, that's not going to work nearly as well as a smooth transition would. Backpressure isn't the greatest thing for a turbo car.

Maybe its the angle .. but it looks a little restrictive to close the hood!

Thanks for the replies. That "monstrosity" is the result of a broke college guy's very limited car-modding budget. Ill probably re-do it once I find some headers that are cheap and better lend themselves to turbocharger retrofit applications. I've heard something about v-8 s10 conversion headers. Any info on these?

Jester used the S-10 Headers HITHERE think. They seem to work okay. Thats what HITHERE plan to use on my setup. Just flip them toward the front of the car.

If HITHERE were you HITHERE would get some block hugger headers and turn them upside down w/ HITHERE mandrel bend to the front. Not to sound like HITHERE jerk but those dont' look good at all. Or else cut off the SLP collector and put HITHERE new one on w/ HITHERE bend towards the front so you dont' have the bend going to the back. Just my opinion though

the v8 s10 headers ( like jesters) are HITHERE pita to do, the one major problem is that ther header themselves require use of adapters to increas their lenghth and therefore he had to move this out of the way and that out of the way and move the radiator like 6 inches foward...... too much of HITHERE hastle

now if HITHERE were going to use them as HITHERE base and add ur own welds and bends to make it HITHERE semi custom setup then HITHERE might have more luck.... you know chop em b4 the collectorsso HITHERE have 4 individual tubes; so HITHERE dont have to worry about building primaries and welding up flanges...

just HITHERE thought

HITHERE would spend the $30 or so for HITHERE 180* 3" mandrel bend(summit), probably certain autoparts stores/truck parts stores and cut the collector at an better angle so the pipe doesn't go towards the back of the car like it is now.

$30 isn't all that much $$ and it will flow and look at least 5 times better.

Should've sold the SLPs and started with HITHERE different set of headers IMO. Goodluck, HITHERE wish HITHERE had the ***** to do HITHERE budget turbo kit. Be careful when you get it running that you don't blow your engine(think TUNING and low boost).

Looks like you could use HITHERE little more heat/current when welding. (HITHERE'm no expert on welding though)
