Cometic Head Gaskets...
I know a lot of the blown Buick boys use this gasket, but are there any blown V8's around here that use them? I'm at a point where I have to make a decision on whether to use these or wirelocks. Composite Felpros with the steel rings don't cut it. Any good/bad experiences with Cometics?

I've got them in my TT SBC 427. Neither the block nor the heads are o-ringed, and I've run 22#+ w/o problems.

I guess the cometics are the cats azz, but they are made to order. We put a set on a 383 LT1 and had to use block seal with them because what they do for cylinder seal they lack in the coolant seal department. Another machinist I talked to told me the same thing. As if its perfectly normal.
Im not running 22#'s, so I'm running the felpro loc-wires. They work fairly well on the fords so with the chevy's improved bolt and seal the loc-wires should get the job done for my overspun procharger.

John Meaney's car built with Troy. That's basically what inspired me to build mine.

Nothing like hacking up your $300 FAST harness LOLBTW....monty built his car himself, Meany and Troy just INSPIRED him.
Also, monty made more hp on pump gas than Meany did

I have a friend with a turbo ls1 and his cometics leaked coolant right out of the sides of the heads, is this common?

Well, when I was over to Dave Storliens shop I asked him why he used those gaskets? He just said that they are the greatest but not cheap. BMW (Bring Money With)

Why not spend a little extra, have the heads oringed and stud them to the block. The buick guys do use them, but they are a type of insurance. They are better then the stockers and supossedly the felpros. My buddy just blew one(#3 cylinder), but could have been atrributed to the tourqe sequence and/or bolt stretch.
If your bottom end is strong enough to handle some abuse, oring em and stud the heads. They shouldn't move except when a really nasty situation occurs.

That's my way of thinking 89! I believe in having a relief valve located on top of the engine, especially a turbo Buick engine. Even then though it's not g0onna be perfect. As it looks I killed the rings on the #3 cylinder. And I only use the stock hg's. If someone is confident with their tune(when are we ever?) and have a fully forged 4340 bottom end and they want to keep the gaskets in place oringing seems to be the only way.
