factory 5.0's do just do that around 500hp... Ford lightened them to the point that between skirt and block flex they eventually just split like that
Did anyone else notice the solid motor mounts?
Looks like bad chassis setup cracked the block. The pistons are also melted, so I assume there was some detonation at some point, which probably didn't help anything.
Lessons learned the hard way I guess.

yeah we made 530 RW in Don's car with a stock block for some time. the engine builder did tell us to change blocks during the overhaul due to cracks, now I know why.
Looking at how the cylinders seperated from crank mains, there isn't all that much material holding the block together.
ATOMonkey - Good point about the solid motor mounts, although it is hard to say that rubber motor mounts would of prevented the destruction.
Not many people got to brag about how they "split" a block.

can you imagine the
you would get? i already have a indy car transaxle lamp/end table i made...
end of the 2001-2002 indy car season.. last race was at Texas motor speedway... i was sitting between turns 1 and 2.... only crash of the race.... car hits the turn 2 wall rear end first.....
after the race, i snagged his transaxle... the case was cracked, but it looks pretty damn cool.

yup.. EXACTLY what i was thinking.
athough i would get a couple pieces of scrap metal and hook the 2 engine halfs together so that you can see how they cracked with the gap........
and as long as it hooks together and not bolts, you can pick up and move the table easily as 3 pieces.... top, and each half....
edit, btw, you dont have to clear coat it if you dont mind wiping it down with some light oil once a month or so... thats what i have to do to the other "intresting" pieces of my furniture...
