nitrous on a 305 tpi?
hey guys heres my setup: 89 t/a with a 305 tpi v8. This model had the high output engine code f putting it at 225hp and 300lbs/tq. stock. I have a borla catback, airfoil and k&n right now. heres what I plan to do, heads, cam, ported intake, plenum, slp runners, homade chip, headers, high flow cat, ram air induction, 75to 100 shot of nitrous, and a 3" y pipe. My question is regarding heads, how much hp would I gain by buying aftermarket heads compared to porting out some l98 heads, or using lt1 heads on my tpi? isnt 9.1 compression safe with the nitrous?? reason Im building up the 305 is so I can have a sleeper, I want my car to be fairly fast but NOT a dragster, 12 to 13 quarter miles are very much acceptable considering Id like to keep my gas mileage down. thanks sorry bout the long post I just wanted to address everything.

sounds like you got some planning going on. I'd hold off with the nitrous for a while and plunk down the cash for some nice heads (AFR) IF you've got the cash. they'll cost a pretty penny, but from what i've read they're worth it. with those heads and a good cam, you might be able to hit 13sec 1/4 and possibly still maintain nice streetability. you may not even need the nitrous, but hey, going faster is always nice too.
Ive been lookin into buying the S/R 305 Torquers. They offer a good gain in torque and HP. depending on what cam you run, you might lose a bit of low end power, with the S/R's you wouldnt even notice it, as they would help keep your torque levels up. Remember, HP wins brags, but Torque wins drags. I think that your goal is very realistic. As a fellow 305'er i plan on gettin into the high to mid 13 second range before goin FI. Im plannin on gettin an STS Backmount turbo, hopefully with that i should be easily into the mid to low 12 second range. anyway, good luck!

Sorry to report this but AFR no longer makes heads for a 305. I bought one of the last sets of 190s they made over two years ago.

would it be better to just get my heads ported and rebuilt with new springs or should I get 113 casting heads from corvette. Ive heard these flow very well, would it be possible to use lt1 heads with an lt1 intake and a tpi setup on top? See Im on a budget so currently Im lookin at either buying used perf. heads or buying one of the three I just showed yall. Thanks for the input

The Corvette aluminum 113 heads are a good choice. I used these at one time. BUT I think it's important to know that the stock heads can be retained with great results. Tim Burgess, Electronics Board moderator, has run high 12's with ported stock heads on his 305 equipped '92 Z. Add a shot of nitrous and he's run 11.70s. Oh, it's his daily driver with full emissions equipment and A/C! I'm sure he'll be glad to share specifics if you contact him.
