Where can I get a pulley?

I have a Paxton SN2000 supercharger. It is the set up that has three V-belts. I am looking for either a crank pulley or a pulley for the compressor that will increase boost to about 10-11 PSI. Can anyone help me locate one (either new or used)?

Jim,

When I owned my Paxton, I found Auto Specialties Performance could fab a three-belt pulley. I had to send mine in to use as a pattern but they can make just about any diameter you need. That was about four years ago, but I paid $95.

Just make sure you don't exceed the blower redline, about 37,500.

Hey Antoine, do you know if Paradise Wheels has an e-mail? Also, if you did the Vr-4 impeller upgrade, what do they charge to do this? Thanks for any info.

Willie,

It is good to hear from you. Thanks for the information. When you replaced the pulley on your Paxton, how much boost did you pick up?
Antoine, I went to Paradise Wheels web site but could not locate the part number that you referenced. I called them and they had the pulley in stock. So, I bought it and it is now on its way! I bought the 3" pulley. The pulley on the unit currently is 3 1/4".

I believe the equation for calculating impeller speed is: (crank diameter/compressor diameter)*RPM*blower ratio=impeller speed. With the ratio of the SN being 4.44:1
If this is correct, then I have a max engine speed of 4400?
(5.75/3)*4400*4.44=37317
That would mean that the max engine speed as the blower came from the factory was about 4700 RPM?
(5.75/3.25)*4700*4.44=36920
I think I am doing something wrong, could anyone offer some assistance?

I just spoke to Craig from Paradise Wheels, and the impeller upgrade is good for 1 to 2 pounds more boost. It is $200 to purchase and have them install at any time or $100 at time of rebuild.

It is good to hear from you.

Oops. Sorry I haven't been back here.... need to do some catching up.

Thanks for the information. When you replaced the pulley on your Paxton, how much boost did you pick up?

Actually, I had a LARGER blower pulley fabbed. Because I was reaching blower rpm way before engine rpm, I decided to slow the blower down so I could rev the engine to its redline -- big mistake. I lost so much boost that the custom fabbed $95 pulley became a very expensive paperweight.

i have this B&M blower that i cannot find pullies for. im frantic and this was the 1st post i came to and already got the problem solved im going to contact that place that can fab pullies...

Glad to help!

I believe the equation for calculating impeller speed is....

Jim, your calcs are correct. With the stock pullies, impeller redline is reached at ~4,700 engine rpm. My engine is built to run to at least 6,000. Now can you see why I decided to have a pulley made? Yes, I was able to run to 6,000 engine rpm without exceeding impeller redline, but lost boost. So if you decide to speed up your impeller rpm's, you'll decrease your usable engine rpm's.... You just can't win with such a low impeller redline. This was the determining factor in selling my Paxton years ago and going with ATI. The D1SC that replaced it has a 60,000 to 65,000 rpm redline. Without performing any calcs, you can see that there's plenty of room to grow with such a unit. Today with my F1 and it's 70,000 rpm redline, I've got even more room.

I just spoke to Craig from Paradise Wheels, and the impeller upgrade is good for 1 to 2 pounds more boost.

I'm not familiar with this "VR-4" impeller but it produces the same as Paxton's old high performance impeller. With it, mine made ten pounds. With the stocker, I was seeing eight.

Willie

I just installed the pulley from paradise wheels. Even though I can now only rev the engine to about 4900 (which still exceeds the compresser redline) I got 11 PSI of boost. The car pulls alot harder and I am pleased with the results.
Thanks to all for the help.
