I was lucky enough to get my hands on a perfect-working Garrett TC from a 2002(03) Excursion 7.3 Diesel. I was wondering what model TC was shipped with these trucks. I can't do a search via S/N, however, on the housing it reads 452656. On the wastegate, it reads 452603-22. It's a 1.00 A/R Compressor side and .84 A/R Exhaust side.

Any help would be appreciated!
(This is a big *** turbo! )

Nope, it's a GTP-38, same as all 99.5-03 Powerstrokes.

If so is this a direct replacement or would it need modification?

Kind of turbo you say..?? Hmmmm...Let me think..I KNOW!!!

It is a one big gigantic mono turbo that is a waste of money to buy when you can just buy something like TPI or HSR and my favorite...THE BLOWER..

Sry cant help ya but the turbo is waste of money ..Kinda like the TBI

Ouch.... It's only $55

If you can hook me up with a TPI, HSR or a blower for $55 sign me up!!!

I have read that this turbo would be a good size for a single V8 turbo setup. It is supposed to max out at 650HP. Just what I have read nothing to back that up.

Looks like a GTP-38 to me. Don't buy it unless you plan on rebuilding it, a $55 turbo is probably in need of a rebuid, regardless of what the seller says (there's a small chance it's fine, of course.. just don't bet on it)

IMHO, turbochargers are best mated to port fuel injection systems, so there's a hint of truth to CamaroPimp's hate.

And CamaroPimp, if you're going to hate like that, at least post a reason why turbochargers are such a bad thing.. I mean, I personally can't see a problem with a minimal investment returning obnoxious horsepower gains.

Here's a pic of a shiny GTP-38 for comparison.
