FMIC Question.
How well would this FMIC be?
Dimensions Details:
Core Length : 24" (600mm)
Core Height: 12" (300mm)
Core Thickness: 3" (76mm)
Inlet Size: 3" o/d (76mm)
Outlet Size: 3" o/d (76mm)
"End to End" Length: 32" (800mm)
I was looking for a 23 x13x 3 1/2
Would this be close enough? Its a bar and plate style.

It looks pretty damn good from the pics, and the price would be hard to beat, but the cross sectional area of that intercooler isn't even 80% of the one you desire. This could make for some large pressure losses depending on how much cfm you want this thing to cool. What type of hp are you shooting for?

there is a mass of intercoolers on ebay right now in that size and price range, it is incredible.
someday we will look back and say, I remember when it cost a fortune to turbo charge our cars.
read this thread the owner tells his dimensions and used and interesting method to install. his outlets are differently placed as well.

The dimensions of my intercooler are 13" high, 23 5/8" wide, and 3 1/2" thick. I couldnt really get specs on the tanks but if you find out the distance between the bumper supports then subtract the width of the core(23 5/8")and another 1/2" for clearance(1/4" on each side)you'll get the amount of room you have left to play with. Split that figure in two and you'll know exactly how big the tanks can be, probrobly a little over 3".

Steve

That could put you near 1,000hp by my count, which is way past efficent for both the turbo and the intercooler (unless you're expecting twins!). Is there any reason for that engine choice? I feel a much more economical 355 L98 derivative would be a better idea for a single hx55. Not that I have used one of these before or anything, I'm just going from the numbers and this chart you have:

Your 1000hp mark seems right. Thats what Ive been told also out of a HX55 on a motor that will take the boost.

No TTA850 had no intensions of redoing it. I planed to run one like that with side in/out instead of bottom because the car is lowered.
I can take pic's of the core area if needed since the front clip is off now anyways.. maybe I'll roll it out and get some pic's this weekend.

Tom, you might want to check out http://www.turbomustangs.com/forums/...?s=&forumid=20
That has been brought up with in the last few days. Twin HX35's would take alot to spool also. Somoene said That would e a good setup for a 500BigBlock motor.
Lots of Holset info if you do a search over on the forums there.
A single HX40 will support 800Hp from my readings.
This HX55 is more then I will ever need. but the price was right and i didnt think I would like how low the twin 60/63's would have spooled on either motor I build. would have made it non street trie friendly.

Nobody seems to be able to find Holset Compressor maps. Im assuming (heres the *** part again) that that Holset chart is what they put on on desil setups. Since thats what they were designed for. I could be WAYYYY off here and pprob am.
I's really like to find a compressor map. and see formyself where its sweet spot is.
Ive had a few people say It will start spool around 2500+ on a 350. and it will start spooling around 2300-2800 on the 418,and be fully spooled by about 3500 in second at the latest)
So I dono. On a 396 It should do decent. prob a little lag in the low end. but the trq from a stroker might make up for that.

well, vortech, paxton, and procharger dont give thier compressor maps either. sadly when using turbos like this building a junk yard setup, a certain amount of common sense and faith has to be applied. Comparisons to similar sized turbos, and attention to A/R's.
There is/was a guy on ebay that had some turbo selection and sizing software that contained compressor maps for essentialy every turbo one might find with exception of the GM-IHI-Warner diesel turbos.

I've been looking at these intercooler's for some time now. check this place out, they will do mods as well. Oh yeah and a buy it now cheaper than the auction you were looking at. Seems like the same cooler gets sold all the way down to about $260 or so. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33742

I believe it's a Mishimoto product, not %100 sure but it seems to be. I'm trying to get the US place I listed above to weld some 90º inlet/outlet pipes at the plrice so it's closer to a drop in fit. If I were you I would get the $20 in shipping insurance.

Congrats on that purchase, you have six days to pay before you get bad engrish feedback.
I did not think the Austrailian/Hong Kong contingent was still selling on US ebaY, but I see them now with just two items at a time. The overseas guys started bringing these coolers over first. Funny how it's listed as a "New Custom Made." Yeah custom, funny they all look the same and you can buy them by the truckload. Not what I imagine as custom but a sweet product. No truth in advertising.
