Make mine RMT! (rear mount turbo)
I also have a 305 w/ 5 speed (92 Heritage Edition Z28 Convertible) , love the car but am disappointed with the performance. I am going to try my hand at the rear mounted turbo solution to get more power.
Maybe I can duplicate everything and hook you up for about a million bucks!
Wait, I'll have to make four extra kits so that I can do my other three 92 Camaro's! Curious what the 6cyl will do with a turbo!
Wonder how the B4C will perform!
I'll post pics and specs as things progress.

tpi, tbi ? why not supercharge it? vortech and procharger make good kits for the tpi motors and will work on the tbi ones with a little work

Baseline for my RMT project
Dyno of my stock 305 results:
173 HP @ 4200rpm
245 ft# @ 3300rpm
I'll post the dyno results after I fab up the rear mount turbo.
Hoping to gain at least 100 in each category.

money isnt an issue??? well hell.. ditch the 305 AND the crappy TBI..
go 350/383/400 ect.. with any aftermarket intake you want..
OR do the LT1 or LS1 swap..
dont even waste a thought on putting money into a 305 TBI.. its crap..

Here is what i did when i had a 305 TBI. I put a carbed intake on it, and an adapter plate(so the TBI could still be used). Then i added a 150 shot of NOS. Then i wasnt geting out run by imports anymore. and i used the same NOS setup and intake when i built my 355 so the only money i really lost was in the adapter plate. So in short "JUST JUICE IT"

NOS on a TBI??
NOS in general
you guys forget.. TBI was in no way MADE to be a performance system... i do know and see people make it so.. but usually at the same cost of a TPI system.. with mediocre results..
he said money wasnt an issue.. if thats true.. then why even waste a thought about TBI when you can have a 350 with ANY intake system out there?
i dont think the original poster is even watching this thread anymore..he hasnt posted in 3 weeks..

BT283 you had to add a shot of nos to not be outrun by imports? Damn the only import near me that has beaten me is a Golf III Turbo. Only beat me by 1/2 a car (my hood was at his back door) and he was a starndard and i was an auto.. BTW I have a 305 bored 30 over
As for the original poster, get a 400 and get it blown. that'd be fun

I know from much experince 305s are junk that is why i have a 355 and trust me there arent to many 305s that could touch me. there is no point in building a 305 when you can build a 350 or 400. And for the import thing i raced real imports not your buddys civic with a body kit on it then he thinks he is a street racer, Civic hatchbacks with GSR swaps, LS swaps, and yes the have nitrous for imports too. So if you think your 305 is fast go to your local cruise spot find the crapest looking Civic hatchback without a body kit or interior, and race him becauce a Golf Turbo is a slow car i dont care if it does have a turbo. 305s SUCK!!

i agree 305's are iffy, as well as imports. But the golf III is not that slow of a car. True it isnt a civic with a GSR swap. But the kid isnt stupid, full exhaust, headers back. No Cat, Running something like 10lbs of boost... not bad i'd say. If u wanna run a nice Turbo car, run against my uncle. 93 RX7-R (1 of 400), TT'ed with a new motor, and 2 new turbos. Each turbo is only running 6lbs of boost, but it is sequential turbos.

you want some power buy some heads put in a lt1 cam put on a full exhaust and give tbichips.com a call and have them burn you a chip then you might start to see some good power

All this talk about 305's being crappy is hurtin' my feelings, for those of us that wanted the T5 this was as good as it got. Although I must admit I was more impressed on the test drive (having never driven a sports car before) now after a year I begin to realize how lacking they really are. I agree w/BT283, don't mess with the 305 when you can have 350...or bigger. As for me, I waiting for LS1/T56 swap........now that 'll eat 'em up, hell yeah!

anyway. ditch the 305. i wouldnt even use it as a boat anchor. build a properly forged engine of your size choice and put either a turbo or supercharger on it. dont waste your time NA or nitrous. unless the nitrous is to spool the turbo...

Its easy to get into 12's when you weigh less than 3000lbs. My 2900 lbs vette does pretty good against turbo hondas and Im N/A and shift at 6200 rpm. Weight removal is the cheapest mod you can do to improve your 1/4.

First and foremost, upgrade the exhaust, cause you're not gonna make any power with the stock exhaust choking the engine. Then look up the ultimate TBI mods in the tech articles. Get an intake manifold to help with that. Port your heads. Swap in a new cam, or if you don't wanna do that, then some 1.6:1 rocker arms will help a little. And then work your way back through the tranny and rear end.
Most 305s can break into the 300s as far as horsepower is concerned. Good luck.

i still say SPRAY THE HELL OUT OF IT. that is the only way to go, superchargers suck and turbos suck. Nitrous is the only way to go.
