plugs on nitrous hits, whats it say?
Hey guys, Ive run my car about 10 times with the nitrous and pulled one of my plugs. Whats its saying? rich?
My car runs on the rich side on motor.
I pulled the timing down to about 4* and hit it with 75, 100, and I did a 150 1 time but mainly hit it about 5 times with the 100 pills.
If the plugs are saying on the rich side what should I do? put a lower fuel jet? drop the fuel pressure? Im at 42 psi now.
thanks!

Unless you pulled that right after a N2O pass without driving afterwards AT ALL, they’re saying that it’s running rich with normal driving.

those plugs look good to me, especially for a modded motor, yeah efi's usually are cleaner like a light brownish color, but those look good.
i agree without checking right after a blast you really don't know

well damn! oh well, I called NX and told them I was running the 150 pills and that the plugs looked blackish/brown and they told me to run the 62N and the 33F pills....I also told them that I had the timeing backed down to 4* and he said that I didnt need to do that with thier kits that I could run it at 6* which is stock.
He also told me that I should have the plugs gapped at .035 and I have mine gapped at .045 Im gonna wait till this weekend and pull all the plugs and regap them to .035
Also my MSD 6+ box will be back from MSD next week too so maybe that will help me burn the fuel better.

Ok I went and got me some NKG TR6 plugs....look at the difference in lengths....whats up with that....Does that mean that much more of the plug is going to go into the head? Is tha a good thing or a bad thing? So I just tighten it up till the plug is tight in the head?
the plug on the left is the TR6 gapped at .035 and the plug on the right is the accel shorty header plug gapped at .045....it doesnt look to good, huh?
I went ahead and put them in and ran them all the way in till I could get a good torque on them with the wrench.....cranked the car up and everything seems to be ok...I was afraid the pistons were gonna hit the plugs tips...but I guess they dont..I just think thats odd how the others are no where near as long as the NKG's
When I pulled the rest of the plugs they all looked pretty damn good....all of them were a light brownish color

if the threads stick out of the heads into the chamber they will get carbon buildup on them and then when you take them out it will f*** up the threads ion the head so be careful i learned that the hard on my fourwheeler

well then why does everyone recommend the plugs that I got if they could cause a problem down the road? The autolites are the same length too and everyone running nitrous are mostly use either one of the 2 and never heard of that sort of problem.
I did a search and no one ever mentioned about using some kind of washers on the plugs or any issue as to the length of the threads. SO I assume everything will be ok...

If the ngks you have are the correct length, that means the Accels you had in there had wayy too short of a reach, and you probably werent getting a very effecient burn. I'd pick up a stock plug for your application and compare it to the two plugs. If the NGK is longer, it will stick too far into the cylinder. The biggest conern here....escpecially when using nitrous is preignition. The threads sticking out into the cylinder being as thin as they are will get sooo hot, that they will glow red and cause massive detonation problems. We all know nitrous + detonation = boom, so you better play it safe and check to make sure the plug you use has the correct reach.

if you have the stock heads on your camaro then the ones on the right are correct length the ones on the left are way too long. look up your ac delco number if stock is say r54cts or r45ts ect. they might say you need a r44cts or r43cts plug wich are colder the other numbers need to be the same as they deal with the length

"t" series plugs are not what you should run. "ur" is more correct. p.s. retard the timing, f$$k what nx says. they say that you dont need to with "thier" kits, but the reason behind retarding the timing still is applicable.
If you are using the stock 305 TPI heads (cast iron) you MUST use the short-reach plugs. The long NGK's you have pictured are wrong.
Also.... I noticed you're gapping your stock plugs at .045. Not only is that wrong for nitrous, but those plugs are not even DESIGNED for a gap that big regardless. Notice how the side electrode is angled up, not parallel with the top of the center electrode? That's bad, too. Get a set of the same plugs you have in it now and set them at .035 and start over.

thats what I did..I put the old but fairly new plugs back in and re-gapped them to .035
My MSD box will be back from MSD on Friday and Im going to hook it up and then have the bottle filed again and see how it does...

WHY? those are the stock numbers. you are told to change the heat range not the style of plug

FWIW, I never had an issue at stock timing with a 150 shot on my L98. Anything over that I'd definatley start retarding timing though...
if you're wanting to be extra safe, can't hurt to retard it.

It’s not “having an issue” that is the issue, it’s that on the spray timing isn’t as critical to making power and retarding it a little results in a slightly safer tune without any significant loss in power.

OK
I went and got a set of NGK UR5 's and a set of Delco R42TS's
I was able to trade the used plugs in and get what I got. I figured those plugs are so cheap that I can afford to change them every month if I have to.
Oh and the plugs are the correct thread size.
