sn93 outputs
just bought a paxton sn93 supercharger kit and i am curious as 2 how much hp or percentage gain this will produce also what is the "SAFE" max psi this thing will produce? it will be installed on my 305tpi for the time being until about june when i get my lt1 or 350 tpi.
anybody know what kind of times i can expect my car ran a 15.1 with the speed limiter hitting with about 60 feet left i plan on getting that fixed. i think that with that fixed it could trap a 14.8-9. would it be possible 2 get a full second drop with this supercharger and nothing else(with the speed limiter removed obviously)?
my goal is 2 hit the 12's with the lt1 and this supercharger. possible or improbable?

I had the PROBABLY 1 FREAK SN93 paxton... Most I ever saw blew up easily....Mine took everything thrown at it.. Mine had a MODIFIED impeller and smaller pully.. Best it saw was 11PSI... It ran HOTTER THAN HELL ... but never had problems...Best I got with it was a 12.9. that was with ideal conditions... all I had was base runners and plenum work...
However Every other one Ive ever seen PUKED the minute soeone added a pully or upped the boost.. Just a bit of free advice.. FWIW mine was an original PAXTON unit...From the first OWNERS..as I understand it those were the most reliable of the units as I understand it..
To be honest the unit caused/causes problems..
#1 look at how HARD it is to turn the thing... then you have to look at how hard you have to tighten the belts to get them not to slip...Mine was sooo farging tight that it wore my front main bearing... you could tell where the blower was mounted by looking at the bearing wear..

Mine was a 350...
The head unit looks like a really old paxton model>>>Which while really old sounds bad>>Thats not the case...From what Ive seen/experienced the older ones are better..
However 9PSI will require an impeller upgrade plus pullies...when you do that Id advise getting an oil cooler as well..
As it stands with that head unit you will see 5-6 psi topps.. The impeller upgrade gives you 1-2psi boost and then the rest you make up with pullies...
Im not sure if you can even get the impeller upgrade done anymore...that used to be a paxton service deal... Im not sure if paradise wheels can do the upgrades...FWIW if you dont know Whats left of paxton WILL NOT WORK ON BALL DRIVE UNITS.. They sold the rights to a place called paradise wheels.. thats who does the repairs on them and sells parts.. I dont have the number off the top of my head but if you search this forum I know its been posted..

I dont know how much you bought that for but I would get rid of it. I think you will have more grief with it then anything else. But I can not say that from personal experience. I only had friends who put them on.

how much would i be looking at 2 get a good not the best supercharger but something that will satisfy my need of around 10-14 psi on a lt1... i would just need the headunit and it it needs an oil line and stuff like that. i can make my own custom pipes and everything

also why would this be a bad supercharger? even if i got a intercooler and such 2 help cool it down so it doesnt heat up and cease the bearings? would they still be junk of they were running cool enough?

The DEFECT if you will in the setup is the fact that its a ball drive unit... To cool the bearings you DONT use an intercooler>>That wont solve the heat issues withthe compressor... to solve that you need the OIL COOLER KIT..
The ball drive is parasitic from the word go...Just try to spin the front pully...see how difficult it is... Let me put it in perspective.. My gear driven vortech that I replaced my paxton with.. If I spun the pully with my fingers it would spin and spin and spin...
There are many questionable parts inside of those compressors.. The ball drives themselves come apart from heat> the bearings go dure to the heat generated by the ball drive, the impeller shafts have a tendency to break ETC etc.. Id say there is NO WAY IN THE WORLD you get 14psi out of it and have it survive..
For 14PSI you COULD get a S-trim vortech>>>>However you will have to put extremely small compressor pully and a BIG crank pully... I ran my s-trim at 12 and to be honest my pullies were shredding belts because of the small diameter of the compressor pully.. IF you go COG then you must find an HD unit.....MORE MONEY.. or step up to aa t-trim or YS trim..
Compressor cost new is over $1000..
If you wish to use that blower in the pick my advice is to keep it at 6psi and be done with it..

I dont know on the novi2000>>I decided after seeing all the troubles others had with Paxton that Id never buy another...
Id I had to wager a guess Id say 1200 or so for the compressor..

I got my Novi2000 cheap from a friend who totaled his truck, but the going rate is usually around 1000 or so on ebay, that should be for a low mile unit, tough to tell on ebay but use your instincts on the seller but deals can be had. The newer Novi's are in an entirely differant class as the older ball drive units. They're alot more durable and quite efficient. I'm running about 12psi boost at 5500 RPM in a 305 and not generating a heck of alot of heat in the intake. This is with a 4" blower pulley.

they don't make the novi for our cars unless you fab a bracket for it.

I think he mentioned just a head unit, but yes a bracket will need to be fabricated, a worth while venture if your so inclined as I was. It's also a big honkin blower to stuff in there with all accessories in stock locations but it's doable with a little innovation.

Yeah OR.. You could buy a YS trim XXtrim or Z trim vortech.. For which they make brackets, and have customer service familiar with the application etc etc etc.. I dont see many people running the paxton units anymore.. You see 50 times the people running ATI or vortech.. BUT for the 12 PSI he is talking about a NOVI2000 YS XX X Z ect are all OVERKILL.. I ran 14 PSI out of my S-trim vortech.I was not too close to the max rpm either...so I had room for more. There is no need to buy a Compressor the diameter of a sewer lid to run low boost given what he posted his goals being. His goal was 12's.. not 9's

Sure.. It gives the extra WOW FACTOR when you open the hood..
IMHO if you have the means there no reason not to put the biggest SOB they make on the car..
But given his questions on cost and ET goals its probably not in his best interest to buy say a Z trim and spin it at 500 rpms to hit 12's...lol

also, he'll see alittle more psi on the current 305 than you would w/ a 350 because of the displacement. Same rpm(motor/blower) + smaller hole to put it in = higher pressure.Nothing major, but more...for now, now for his future plans w/ a 350..I'd agree on the s or Y-trim. Simplicity. ATI or Vortec, they're the leaders in superchargers, not the just one of the oldest...
