Best head for a blower/ported TPI setup and 17lbs of boost
Best head for a blower/ported TPI setup and 17lbs of boost
well i've been looking around and have found a few i like. so far my choices are:
AFR 190 or 195
Canfield 195
Brodix special edition heads
so far i really like the brodix, i have to find out price first. they dont flow a whole lot on the intake but flow mass out the exhaust which is important for blowers. also it has a 187cc intake port which would help velocity and power with the ported TPI setup.
would appreciate all opinions and any other heads you can reccommend. here is the link to the heads:
http://www.canfieldheads.com/sbc_2500.html
-i like the price and intake flow on these and the exhaust would wake up with some minor porting
http://www.brodix.com/Catalog/Heads/...p_sy_wt-1.html
-these i think would work awesome, only problem is that they are already fully ported so no room if i do something else
www.airflowresearch.com
seem good but need to wake up on the exhaust and a little more expensive than canfield
update:
forget about those brodix heads....like $2800 screw that

I dont know if you are intersted or not, but check these out. this is a friend of mine & i was considering buying the heads, but thought that a ATI would be a better purchase
He is a Machinist & does all of his own machine work (not porting stuff though). if you want to know more info contact June (his wife) or get me off list & i will fill you in.

I like the dart II sportmans on mine i had
a few pistons give onder the strain and was
glad that the iron was there if not the piston
ring that took off too would have goudged
allumin heads. and if your wondering i did
have the rings gaped for supercharger/nos.
most of my problems were with making my timming
too aggressive and thainkig i could get away
with it running race gas.

Pro - like you mentioned, you need exhaust flow. One of the third-gen email list folks (Terry Hartman) had AFR cast a custom head using the 195cc intake runner, and the exhaust runner from the 210cc head. He's happy with it AFAIK.
I'm going through the same dilemma right now too - I'm leaning to the AFR's as well, with the big exhaust port since the turbos add tons of backpressure. The Canfields look nice, but don't look like they have the same flow numbers. I don't know a good shop to have them ported, so the AFR CNC's look appealing. What about the Trick Flow 23 deg heads? I'm most concerned about flow movement to kill detonation, rather than ultimate flow. Any ideas? I've got to find some sodium filled valves now, and will have the combustion chamber coated.

i like the Track 1s but heard that the port is too high for the TPI base. Also, that intake port is kinda big. like 215cc, i'd just go canfield 220cc instead.
Take it from me, ported 305 heads.

well i was given this opinion from this guy dave who's corvette's have been in car craft or was it hot rod and runs 9' and using very simple work on his motor and uses stock exhuast manifolds. I saw some of your mods and mentioned it to him and he said to order the brodix and if possible get a 52 mm throttle bodie and a mini ram of course if your running fuel injection.
well, i dont want to use a mini ram because of its fuel distribution problems and am either going to use an accel pro ram or use a ported TPI setup. I think for some stealth look i'm going to keep the TPI setup.
i think i've decided on AFR 195cc
