Am I getting too much oil to my turbos?
Am I getting too much oil to my turbos?
Both of my turbos are out for a "they needed it anyway" rebuild. But I was wondering if using too large an oil supply line might have something to do with my leaking problem as much as failing seals. I'm running a 1/4" tube to a T fitting, then 1/4" tube to each turbo. My engine sees 60 psi..even when warmed up with 5-30wt.

60psi? At what RPM? That seems a little high.

Pretty much anything above idle. Melling 55 w/ HP relief spring on an all new motor.

the OP is a bit excessive, but I dont think that it will hurt the Turbo's. they push through an orifice & I am sure that it does not like that OP all the time but I can not see that it is a big deal. I think that it is more likely to get hurt if the return line is too small or kinked.
I am not a turbo Guru, but that makes pretty fair sense to me.

Make sure the return line isnt kinked. The return line MUST go in the pan ABOVE the oil level. If not, the oil coming out of the turbo will get backed up in the line and push its way past the seals.
Oil Pressure isn't so high. I'm running the same right now. I don't think the stock gauges are 100% reliable. A good rule of thumb is 10 psi per 1000 RPM.

The return line uses 1/2" fittings. no kinks or anything. I wasn't sure if 1/4" under high pressuse would deliver too much oil even for that to handle without leaking out of the shafts.

I don't think you're getting too much oil - seems fine to me. Like what was said - you need a big, clean, non-horizontal run drain line. For reference, my oil comes from the oil plug near the top of the bellhousing from a T (I think 1/8 NPT to -4AN), -4AN lines to a -4AN/ -1/8NPT elbow into the turbos. The drain is a vertical 1/2" NPT/-10AN fitting to -10AN line, to a -10/-1/2" NPT 45 degree into the oil pan at the front, above the oil level.
