First time results from nitrous...
Ran my car for the first time with nitrous and was pretty impressed with it. Here re some specs from my car
Stock internal 305 oher than a summit TPi cam kit.
Performer intake
600 Edelbrock
TH 350 with a Street Fighter 3000 stall
3.23 gears with a stock posi
26x10.5x15 ET streets
NX Hitman Kit with 150hp jets
NGK 8 plugs
Headman shorties
Headman y pipe
Hooker catback
32 degrees of timing on motor and 26 degrees on the gas
Spohn Driveshft and adjustable TQ arm
My best run on motor was 14.77@83.01. On the gas was 13.1@103.21. We ran it on the dyno the day before just to make sure it was safe and it put down 190hp/225tq on motor and 289hp/321tq on the gas. It is SUPER rich right now . IT goes off the scale about 4800 rpms and the scale stops at 10:1. The TQ convertor is all I had at the time because the B&M Holeshot Nitrous convertor I bought put a real bad vibration in the drivetrain .I was having some fuel issues that I think was vapor lock. Got it fixed and the car started running great! We plan on getting it back on the dyno to get it lean'd out a bunch and get some timing in it.

sounds good....let us know the results of leaning it out. Im buyin a NX kit soon. So im really interesred.
Re: First time results from nitrous...
Is it fat on motor or only on the jug?
Just curious. I've seen plenty of stock nitrous systems run fat before, but not usually with a ski jump to the curve in the higher RPMs. Usually just fat pretty much everywhere. Real fat in the high RPMs is bad and not just for performance reasons. You can get some pretty horrendous backfires with a super-fat fuel curve running on the bottle.

It was about 11:1 on motor and it was super fat with the nitrous. I had the fuel pressure was at 8psi which was high any ways. We were gonna put a bigger nitrous jet in it but I didnt have any. Gonna lower the psi and maybe put another regulator inline for the nitrous side.

ive been planning to use nitrous. Do you have to get a fuelpressure regulator? or can u run it just like that. I have about the same setup as you. i just dont want to blow up lol

Re: First time results from nitrous...
I am using the intank fuel pump. When I bought the car the pump was dead so I just put a used pump from a TBI model vehicle that I had laying around. I have a Holley fuel psi regulator to cut the pressure down cause the pump will put out 13-14 psi which is way to much for a carb. Before I put the nitrous on it I was just running a mechanical pump. I decided it would probably be best to run the electric pump in this case.
Re: First time results from nitrous...
yup just wait untill you get into progressive controllers and bigger jets........and expired bottles, there is a date stamped on the bottle, they are good for 5 years then need recertification, its a good idea to look at it, the guys at summit were saying that most of the zex bottles on the shelf were 2 to 3 years old, i kinda thought that sucked lol. i recently built a new engine for the car i got, and ran pretty good, then i decided to spray it just like i sprayed the old one, and put it on the rear bumper high enough to lift the rear tires also! now i leave on 20 percent any more it goes on the bumper, i am using 225 jets getting close to 900 hp, its addictive lol

Re: First time results from nitrous...
Ive only seen one car on the dyno with a controller. I think it had a 300 shot(fogger system). Arent the controllers harsher on the solenoids? I whink once we get this motor tuned I wont go any larger on the shot for the fact that the bottom end is 21 years old!! Once my 350 goes in it might see a 200 shot but well see.

Re: First time results from nitrous...
Well the tranny took a dump on me so I gotta rebuild it. B&M just got my TC in so I hope they send me a new one back to help with the vibration problem. Cant wait for the new TC so the times can get better and maybe put down alot better numbers with tuning.

Very nice gains on the bottle. Fun eh?
Most progressive controllers work by pulsing the solenoids, so yes, it can be a bit harsh on them.
BTW, it cost me a whole $15 to get my bottle re-certified so it is not that big of a deal. If the techs filling your bottle know what they are doing most won't fill it if it is past due.

damn Alex! almost 1.7 sec gain on the bottle. Just think if you had a 350 in there. IS this the same car that had a 5 spd? anyways congrats! hope you get in the 12's next time out.

Nah man, this is the '86 Iroc I bought. I still have the other car but it wont see the track again. Im gonna pull everything out and the 350 is gonna get a few changes. Id like to get the 305 to run what the 350 did cause the numbers are pretty close.

Re: First time results from nitrous...
Well I finally got enough time to rebuild the tranny. The steel plates were burn all to crap, all the thrust washers were showing brass . After I first put the tranny in the car the speedo quit and I found out why. The clip holding the driven gear on poped loose and fell in the bottom of the tailshaft housing. Somehow it made its way into the governor housing but not before lodgin in between the governor gear and the teeth on the output shaft and eating up the governor teeth. Then got into the governor and took out a spring....... Anyways Im glad it happened cause it was time to rebuild it . Its shifts alot firmer on the gas now. Also got the Nitrous Holeshot 2400 stall in it now and it will brake stall 2500 and flash about 3200 going down the road. Hope to get it tuned in after the first of the year. I would like to see 310-315 hp and 335-340 tq!!
Re: First time results from nitrous...
Just wanted to say decent times, you have a lot more in the setup though both on and off the motor. Your AFR all motor (11:1) is a lot closer to where you wanna be on spray. Lean that bad boy out some, 12s are yours easily, and quite a bit more into the 14s off the jug. I bet you can pick break 14.5s no problem if you get it leaned out.
