vortec and MPT70 combo???

8.5:1 with 16 pounds of boost, super victor, CSU carb, vortec heads with 2.02/1.60 valves and mild port work, Lunati hyd roller with 232/242 .510/.525 110LSA.
Will be using ebay stainless headers and then fabbing up an intercooler system and using methanol injection.
What kind of power would this combo make as listed, through a T56?

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

How big a motor? Assuming 355 ci I'd say around 620rwhp or so, mostly limited by the turbo running out of breath. I'm building a similar but milder combo right now and should have it to the dyno by the middle of next month.

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

Just slightly. I mean, it'll work, but it will lag more and such.

I would go with a S400 from Dave@majestic turbos. Get one with a T04 .96 exhaust housing and let it go. IIRC, Its a 72mm (inducer) turbo that will go to about 850-1000hp.

I think you can buy them for under $700.

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

Is this a street car?

The BW is a great turbo too but will definitely be a bit lazier with the T56 and small motor.

My combo is a 9.1:1 350sbc with a mild cam (220-230) and stock vortec heads, a demon carb and MP t70 on a bbs header.

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

I don't think the S400 comes with a T4, it would choke the flow too much (call Dave at Majestic though as he's a BW expert and a good vendor.)

I'm hoping for around 450rwhp @ 8lbs and eventually 500rwhp at 10-11lbs. Mine is purely a street car that will stay under 5700rpms while retaining good manners and reasonable milage.

I dont think it will choke it tooooo bad. I mean, I would think it would flow 700-750hp on the exhaust side. If he wanted to go big then yes I would go with a T6 with a 1.0x a/r.

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

Well, I would like to end up as close to 1000rwhp as possible in the future with a different head and cam combo and maybe a 383ci.

The 1.10 A/R backpressure will be too high for that goal. I would go with the 1.32 A/R housing. Once you narrow in on your HP goal then you can use the Garrett turbine flow maps and compare the BW exhaust wheels and housing A/R to see how much HP the turbine will flow. The 1.10 A/R turbine and 1.32 A/R have different exhaust wheels. The 1.10 A/R has a wheel comparable to a Garrett GT4294 and the 1.32 A/R wheel is closer to the GT45 series.

1000hp? If you want that to be reliable be prepared to spend around $10,000 in a motor. These are rough guesses. I might be off a few pennies here and there.

Dart block 2300
Oliver rods 1400
Lunati Dragonslayer crank, probably 1000
Dished pistons, probably 1000
Headstuds 150
Headgaskets 200-300
AFR 195 eliminators, like 2200 with competition port and full options

Thats roughly $8000-8500 in just big stuff. Thats not all the gaskets, cam, lifters, intake, carb or EFI, machine work, assembly (in this case, if youre not a experienced builder, dont bother) oil system, cooling system, SFI damper, transmission to hold that power. Good god I can keep going.

the new t4 secret is an S380. its a T4 turbo too.... .87 on the exhuast side iirc....

its the one you need, i know for a fact you can make north of 1000whp with it.

edit: spoots quicker than a gt42-76

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

id say you could make upto 1000+ with the right engine, however.. i wouldnt suggest it on a stock block / internals.

but on low boost ie: 10psi, id say north of 600hp with the 355.

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

Im wondering how much RWHP I could achieve with a forged 355ci. with some UNported Vortec heads, super victor, CSU carb, lunati hyd. roller 232/242 .510"/.525" 110lsa 9.0:1 and 14-16psi. intercooled?????
will also have beehive springs with titanium retainers and 1.5 roller rockers.

My first motor was a 9.1:1 355 with mp t-70. afr 195 heads, vic jr, and a 228/228 cam. On 14 psi with 94oct. and 17* timing it put down 580rwhp. The second motor was the same rotating assembly but i had a "half fill" done on it and splayed main caps. I also upgraded to a 76mm. on 18psi and 110 oct i was right at 700whp. a good block with splayed caps and a short fill will hold up just fine to 1000hp if the tune is good and the RPMs stay below 6500. I would suggest you change that cam, you'll be much better of with one on a 114 LSA. I dont see why a VERY conservative and streetable setup like yours wouldnt make 500whp.

How big, physically, is a S380? Is it smaller than a t76? will it work with the BBS header design and clear the hood?

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

New Question...How much horsepower will a 8.5:1 383ci with 270cfm Ported Vortec heads and a 242/248 .5xx/.5xx" support? 700rwhp, 900rwhp? how much? I'll take all I can get.

Re: vortec and MPT70 combo???

How much can it support in what way? Can it make 700+HP? Or can it survive making 700+HP?

There is alot of variables that go into it.

What block are you using? Filled? What mains setup do you have? 2? Straight 4? Splayed 4?

What brand crank/rods/pistons do you have? Whats your ring gap?

What type of headgaskets and what type of retention? Are you using ARP bolts or studs?

What type of valves and springs are you using?

Answer those and I'll get back to you.
