Nitrous on a L98

How much can I run on a factory L98 bottom end before it turns inside out? How much can you run with nothing more than a cat back exhaust? Thank's

Seems like people run a 100-150 shot pretty well on stock v8s.

That is what I thought. There are things in the works for the wifes GTA and I want to see a little blue bottle in the trunk.

I use to run a 150 shot on my last Z with a stock bottom and had no issues after about 20 bottles went through it

my 305 held up to 10+ bottles of 125-150+ shots for a couple years and never quit not even before i swapped to a 350. opened the old 305 up and it was clean as a whistle no issues i could find what so ever.

If you do it right 150 shot won't hurt anything. But be carefull that stuff is like crack. Once you spray it you can't stop.

go 150. just tune it right and let go of the button when u have a feeling something is wrong. never take nitrous away, add more fuel when tuning. i went carbed so it was very easy. im sure FI itll be 10x worse to tune.

Re: Nitrous on a L98

noob question what would you change (engine wise) in order to make sure you dont blow up the motor, pistons?

That's actually a pretty hard one to field. There's a lot that can go wrong when you crank up the horse power. Stock pistons should be fine, along with stock crank shaft.

Valve springs would be a good place to start. Ideally, some nicer springs will prevent your valves from staying open past the timing of the cam and getting slammed into place by the piston returning to TDC. My dad blew a valve up through his hood like that once.

Probably the best thing you could do would be a high flow/ electric water pump and some other cooling system goodies.

Re: Nitrous on a L98

Forged parts meaning rotating assembly: Pistons, rods, crankshaft. Forged is always a lot more forgiving when it comes to abuse than the OEM parts. That being said anything will break with enough abuse. I've seen a completely forged assembly with ARP fastners rip the top off a piston with 22 lbs of boost and too much timing.

If you search around tho it's been stated on here of guys running 150 shot on stock 350 without issues.
