Twin Turbo??
Twin Turbo??
I was fishing through ebay's auctions on some items for my new-to-me 1987 Camaro Iroc when I am across this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy-SBC-Twin-Turbo-TT-Kit-1982-1992-Camaro-Trans-AM_W0QQitemZ260294224271QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260294224271&_trkparms=72%3A727|39%3A1|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
I was looking it over and found it hard to believe that for 1,000 you could get a turbo that would put out "700hp" supposedly.. my question is that my Iroc originally came with a 305 engine however the owner later swapped for a 350 but I don't think he did anything with the trans other than having it rebuilt... just wondering if this kit is a simple add on or if you were to have this installed if you would also need to have other parts of the car upgraded such as gears or trans.. thanks

Re: Twin Turbo??
When you break the 350hp threshold things arent really strong enough. The stock rear end can be built for about $800 to hold up to about 425hp.
Stock tranny needs to be beefed much less.
Have you ever driven a car with 400hp let alone 700?

Re: Twin Turbo??
I was wondering if anybody here on TGO has used something like this from an E-bay seller...... because I don't see kits like this anywhere else.
Or do most guys do it on their own? For a $1000.oo looks like a good deal to me......
I just spent $3000.oo on Heads/Intake/Cam swap etc that won't get me 300 extra Hp let alone 700 Hp.
Sorry I've been wanting to boost something lately......
Anybody?????

A few people around here started the install of that kit. I have yet to see any finished versions of that kit specifically on a thirdgen Camaro.

Re: Twin Turbo??
i can vouch for the power level they claim is possible with those turbos
they are the same as the single turbo i run on my car (v6)
and they will support about 400-425 hp per turbo
i was under the impression that those headers put the turbos into the subframe on a f-body

rOnin89 is right. Break 350 hp and things start to break. If you are going to go for that much horsepower, then you will need to get (At the least) Subframe connectors, rollcage (8 point), hard torque arm mount, built transmission, built rearend and I would reccommend a driveshaft safety loop for added safety...

Re: Twin Turbo??
Save your money, build it yourself. You will be happy you did! I have those headers and they are horrible. They built them wrong. one sits low and the other sits right. Now I have to go in and fix it, not to mention that I have to move the primary on one side because they don't clear the steering shaft, and that is the one is the one that is built right!
Re: Twin Turbo??
The ebay headers are ok but they will not bolt up with out modification. I helped a friend who bought the headers. The driver side header tube on piston #7 hits the steering shaft. We moved that tube in toward the engine and we also cut of the t-3 flanges and welded on elbows and T-4 flanges. He bought two REAL garret turbos from a vendor on turboforums. The kit is for sale in the classifieds with header, turbos, downpipes. He lost interest and just didn't expect it to be such a big project. His mistake was riding in my car and he was hooked. Look under speedboywanabe in the classifieds

Re: Twin Turbo??
Did you TIG or MIG it with SS308 wire? Back purge or use solar flux?
