Ok, so in these times of high gas prices and what not, I've been reading up about turboing my 2.8.
I've had some questions about it though, since I'm very new to boosting, but I know N/A.
Do i really need to lower the compression ratio if I'm running a 60 trim t3?
Do you have decent luck finding turbos at junyards?
I think my stock injectors will keep up as long as it's below 10 psi (FMU?).
Does anyone think the stock rotating assy. would be up for the task?
The motor doesn't run right now and this turbo would be on a fresh rebuild.
My dad and I are rebuilding this for a graduation present and need to go cheap. I figured at college a v6 would be a nice DD with some getup and go to eat some hondas.
Thanks for all of your help

you should check out the stickies in the v6 forum. they can tell you about everything you've asked and more. also you can search the v6 forum for "turbo" and come up with lots of good reads. later!

project89 is probably the best one to ask about turbo v6s.
I'm planning on turboing my 3.1 soon too.
the bottom end should definitely hold if your putting enough boost to keep stock injectors.
junkyard dog-turbo is a thread I've been following because its similar to what I want and I think its similar to what you want. check it out.

to make this a lil easier on you
u have a 2.8 so the computer is maf based this simplifys ur install and tunning issues to a point
the 2.8 computer will run upto 7-9 psi of boost( with a t3/t4 hybrid slightly more with a smaller t3 turbo) with no tunning mods, the only exception is the addition of some 21# injectors out of a tpi motor
since u are going to rebuild this motor 2 things
the top ring gaps should be opened up slightly
get rid of the stock cam
a 260-2 grind cam is perfect for moderate boost and requires no ecm tunning
the stock rotating aseembly is fine for what u want
im pushing just about 400 crank hp atm at low boost on stock crank rods and stock replacement pistons
u can run the stock cr and have no worrys i would street drive my original setup at 5 psi on cheap gas no problems
the stock fuel pump will be plenty to support what u are looking to do
any other ?'s u need answered just post them up

Thanks for this info, i am looking in buying a predone kit with pretty much everything i would need. That helps not having to tune the computer...

there are no comercial kits YET.
but ttypes kit is a good kit its pretty much based of my very first kit i built
u dont HAVE to tune it for that low boost level it will run fine but u will get alot more out of it if u do tune it

a turbo will make more power, but BOTH would be pretty fun too.

I don't know for sure, but assuming stock is 130ish at the crank: "theoretically" 8-10 psi should add 50-60% more power.
That easily puts you in the low 200hp range, a quick 75hp over stock.
A stock 3.4 is 160hp. At 8-10 psi you could be around 250hp.
Add a cam (with supporting valvetrain upgrades) and major port work to the top end... and you have project89... maybe more.
(Insert the usual "proper tuning" disclaimer here)

the stock 2.8 should make 225 hp with a t4 around 7-9 psi
the stock 3.4 would make around 250 ish with the same boost
and as ttype said add in port work a good custom camshaft and lots of tunning and u could head for the 400-450 hp range or more depending on how hard u want to push it
i am very near those numbers now and im not even pushing my setup ive actually outgrown my t3/t4 turbo and have just upgraded to a t4/61mm unit

really? I never thought ithe motor was that strong down under.....thats great, don't have the money now but a 450hp v6 DD would be totally BA. I'm thinkin a reg V6 until i get some real income(it's impossible to get a part time job right now)and then the sky is the limit......
