Supercharger Beginner Questions

Hey everyone I have a 1990 Trans Am GTA with a stock recently rebuilt 350 motor and rebuilt diff with 3.42 gears. I still have alot to learn mechanically wise on cars but I am considering supercharging my GTA. I know there is alot of preparation to be done and things to consider before supercharging so thats why I am here. If you could please make a list of things I would need to upgrade (engine wise) and other misc stuff that would be great. Any advice for a beginner on superchargers would be good too thanks, Josh

Here's a shot of the ride and the engine.

Re: Supercharger Beginner Questions

Also can someone tell me the difference between this procharger and a supercharger? Is it a supercharger just a different name? Also what model/brand is best suited for our cars...vortech? Thanks again

Re: Supercharger Beginner Questions

procharger is a brand name of centrifugal supercharger.
think like a belt driven turbo instead of a supercharger sitting ontop of the engine

Re: Supercharger Beginner Questions

you could run a stock kit (6psi) on a stock motor anf not have any problems but most guys end up getting the "boostbug" and want like 10 PSI but a stock kit will work perfectly most guys run procharger cause of the intercooler but there are other kits for for our cars good luck nice ride too

Re: Supercharger Beginner Questions

If I were you I would just go heads, cam, and intake. There is lot of modifiying involved with a supercharger setup and you car looks pretty nice to be doing that to, plus you would probably get more performance out of the heads, cam, intake swap anyways.

IF your set on a supercharger and don't want to mess with it to much the vortech setup might be a good one, but if your looking for one with a intercooler procharger is the one for you but there kit is not a direct bolt on, think they made it more for the camaro in mind.

Re: Supercharger Beginner Questions

nothing beats forced induction, procharger has great build quality, get a p1sc and call it good. self contained is a big plus over vortechs, no plumbing and tapping into your oil pan!

Re: Supercharger Beginner Questions

yeah I probably won't supercharge it anytime soon just was curious about it. I want to do exhaust and headers and air intake first. Then after that the car needs minor bodywork (few dents and small surface rust bubble) and then a new rear wing and repaint. You can't tell by the picture that the car needs a repaint but in daylight you can. I'm just a good photographer lol...anyway thanks for the opinions. It seems vortech is better suited to our stock engines then the procharger however it seems procharger yields better HP gains than what vortech says.

Which is why I had the vendor substitute a self-lubricated Vortech V-3 head unit in place of a V-1 or V-2 when I did my install.

Vortech customer service needs improvement. E-mails went unanswered and phone calls to their tech line were a waste of time.

Vortech quality seems good so far except for the chintzy remote drain line. Recommend people $hitcan that upon receipt.
