Well, first let me start off by saying my car made 420HP and 430TQ to the rear wheels with a T5 and my 383 stroker N/A. I have since switched over to an automatic, and I understand that my horsepower will drop off due to the increase rotation weight of things like the converter etc. I am fully expecting a 50-60 horsepower loss. To compnesate for this loss, I was thinking about adding a Vortech S trim or some other comparable belt driven centrifugal superchager at a modest 5-6PSI. The only problem is that my engine currently has about 10:1 compression. Is it feasible to run a small amount of boost with that high of compression just to make up a little power, or is it completely unadviseable? Thanks for any information or opinions on this!

you could install real thick head gaskets to bring the compression down some. other than that, you'd really have to change out the pistons for lower compression.

Are you running EFI? You could richen the A/F ratio and pull some timing to make it work. Not an ideal solution, but it will get you where you want to go.

I bet you lose around 40rwhp by going to the auto. Blowers are put on stock LSx series engines that have 10.x to 1 ratio's, keep the boost reasonalbe and run MLS head gaskets and it should be feasable. Do you have aluminum heads, head studs, etc? Good fastners will definitely help.

I don't see a problem with 6 psi on a 10:1 motor. It wouldn't be the ideal configuration and gives you less margin for error, but certainly has been done. Look at the various kits for LT1's and LS1's running over 7psi on stock engines no problem.

You could definetely do 6-8psi on 10:1 Im running 9.5:1 with 14psi just dont forget a nice and big intercooler and a great tune.

it can be done. it has been done. and it will be done again and again. works good with no problems. and can be done with 93 octane fuel with correct timing set up.

The key to anything is all in the TUNE ! keep it out of detonation. watch how aggressive you get with your timing.
