F2 reverse drive
F2 reverse drive
I am building a 414 ci small block for my 1992 1LE. Its an iron eagle block, Lunati pro series crank, oliver rods, ross pistons, AFR 235 heads, Hoagans sheet metal intake, jesel belt drive and rockers, EFI with Big Stuff 3. I am going with a F2 procharger and I am thinking about going reverse drive with the blower so that the inlet isn't right above the header primary. Anyone have any experience with this type of setup on a third gen. Thanks.
Re: F2 reverse drive
Interesting build. Not sure if a reverse drive is really a necessity to avoid placing the blower inlet over the driver side header. Bare in mind, most turbo (single or dual) and centrifugal applications deal with this just fine with a cold air inlet tube. I do think, however, that you will have a hard time mounting the F2 traditionally and fitting it under a stock hood. I use an F1R and it was a challenge. I got it to fit, but it required a great deal of metal work. If you want some pics of reverse drive engine builds, take a look at Steve Morris Racing Engines. I'm sure anything is possible with enough time and money.
Re: F2 reverse drive
both of them should work. That 414ci motor is going to be very stout.
I plan on putting a set of the new afr 235 heads on my car this winter along with some better rods.

Kendol,
Thanks for the picture, I haven't seen one done like that yet. Also is that an air to water intercooler?? Alos do you have an alternator on there? I am going to be doing some street driving with this setup and may also try to put a power steering pump on it to run a hadrabooster for my brakes instead of a vacume booster. I was told by procharger that the F1 head unit used the same mounting fixture as the F2. What kind of metal or fab work did you have to do? I could see nothing specific in your picture. Thanks for the input!

Dang that pic convinced me. I don't have my precision water intercooler yet but I'm moving the battery. I figured it would fit next to the intake but that is nice!
Re: F2 reverse drive
Given all the questions I have been getting over my setup and the fact I don't want to clutter your F2 reverse drive thread, I started a thread for you guys to ask questions in (9sec project coming together). Feel free to P.M. me if you don't want to post.

1LEZ:
Yes it is an air-to-water intercooler. Designed for 1500+HP through SMRE and chiseled performance. I have a 10 gallon water tank going in the rear hatch area and a heat exchanger with fans mounted in the front bumper. Making the AWIC fit in the battery tray area was not easy. There was a great deal of cutting to get it to fit low enough to clear the hood line. Be prepared to cut out the entire battery tray to make it fit.
Yes, I have a low mount 140A alternator on the drivers side of the engine run by a single v-belt. Aside from the blower, these are the only belt driven accessories on the engine. I too looked at using a power steering pump, but didn't want to hassle with fabbing additional accessory brackets. I converted to manual steering with a Flaming River quick ratio manual steering box.
I hadn't researched it before today
, but the F2 and F1/R brackets have to be different. The F1 has a 9" volute diameter, the F1R a 9.75" volute diameter, and the F2 has a 10.5" volute diameter. If they used the same mount, the F2 would definately hit the driver side cylinder head. Given how close mine is and how much I had to dimple the driver's side inner fender, I can say for sure it won't fit with the bracket I have and use.
I'll go take some pics and attach them.

Dont know how much room you will have but if the unit is mounted up high enough to get a cold air intake pipe on the backside of the blower, you can run it up over the engine to the back of the hood where the cowl is and hopefully draw in fresh air thru there. IF you run a cowl hood that is.
Then just heat sheild the crap out of the intake pipe and over the headers so radiant heat does not effect the intake charge as much.
Then it comes down to running a good intercooler to drop the temps down the best you can.
This guy ran the F1R with a cowl hood and a bubble over the blower so it could fit.

Both you guys Kendol and 1LEZ have strong motors...much stronger base than I do. Just a mild 401 with 195 cc heads. Girly cam hydraulic roller. You should have no problem running low 9's with a good launch. I have the power to do that on just 14-15 psi just no tbrake yet so cant get the launch needed. 9.86 without much problem. Those lower boost pressures shouldnt be hard to cool the intake charge either, especially if you use the water to air with ice water.
The F2 car maybe shooting for 8's? Certainly has the power capability with an F2.

Here are some pics of the alternator drive:

Orr89RocZ: I remember seeing that thread where the guy bubbled his hood to fit the F1R. I always thought it was odd given mine fit just fine. Granted I have a 6" cowl hood, but I tried the stock hood before I put the direct port fogger system on, and it fit just fine. Guess he was using a different bracket.

Yours looks about as close to the finder as my set-up. I love how clean everything looks keep up the good work.
